Qualified tradesmen are essential to any industry and it was for this reason that Kitwe Trades School was established as the Apprentice Training School to provide qualified tradesmen to the mining industry. c training school offering training in various engineering trades. It is situated near Twibukishe Township at the junctions of Mindolo Road and Langashe Street in Kitwe. The school has two wings with Langashe Cutting through to meet Mindolo Road. Kitwe Trades School was established in the 1950s by Anglo American Corporation to train apprentices for the Mining Industry as artisans in various technical areas. In the year 2000, following the successful privatisation of the mining industry, Konkola Copper Mines Plc took over the running of the school and it has been offering traineeship programmes whose main aim is to produce a tradesperson who has the ability to:
• Display a responsible attitude towards work that manifests itself in high standards of safety and workmanship.
• Comprehend full responsibilities and accountabilities in the workplace
• Articulate important safety practices and mining regulations.
• Demonstrate competence in basic trade principles and practices.
• Demonstrate proficiency in usage, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of equipment and tools within plant and workshop environments.
• Display self-motivation to update trade knowledge and skills in line with new trade practices and technology.
