FROM: FORMER CUBS PRESIDENT
To: CUBS MEMBERS
SUBJECT: VOTE OF THANKS.

Good evening everyone, I would like to thank the members of this wonderful society for the rare opportunity that was given to me to serve as CUBS President. Your support has been massive and am truly grateful. I would also like to appreciate the efforts of my executive for their dedication to ensure that this society thrives and remains active throughout the academic year.

As the outgoing executive, we have seen a lot of improvements in many areas of the society. We have also noticed that there are a number of things that need attention. There are some projects that remain unfinished and am confident the new executive will do well to finish them and carry this society forward. I encourage our members to continue with their unwavering support even to our new leaders.

It has been an incredible journey, and I am truly grateful for the memories and friendships that I will carry with me. Wishing you all the best as you prepare for the final exams for the 2022/23 Academic year.

MS SOPHIE NGOMA-A VOLUNTARY CLIMATE AMBASSADOR FOR CHILD EMPOWERMENT AND DEVELOPMENT FUND.

Meet Sophie Ngoma, a 23 years old brilliant young lady. Sophie recently completed her bachelor's degree in biology with specialization in biodiversity and ecology. Ms Sophie served as the Copperbelt University Biology Society Vice President in the previous executive. She is currently working with Classic Zambia Safaris, and she is a voluntary climate ambassador for Child Empowerment and Development Fund.

Sophie is passionate about the environment, biodiversity conservation and climate change because she strongly believes that these are the pillars to survival of mankind and our ecosystems. She believes maintaining the integrity of our ecosystems contributes positively to our wellbeing, and also helps us develop socially and economically.

With the problems that the world is facing today, The effects of our actions are constantly becoming more visible and can be felt even more as the years go by. For this reason, Ms Sophie believes it is our sole responsibility to take action to prevent our ecosystems from collapsing and also to improve our social and economic development capacity.

Interacting with this brilliant person can make you learn a lot. Quoting her own words, Ms Sophie said, "I strive to become a better person and to develop myself personally, academically, and in my career because I believe in constant growth. Life is a whole complex learning purpose."

Her encouragement to the biodiversity and ecology students or rather biology students at large is to simply love what you do and go for what you love, it'll help you find your purpose. And you'll excel in your expertise.

CELEBRATING THE LEGACY OF THE OUTGOING CUBS PUBLICITY SECRETARY- MS SHARON CHELA

In my life at CBU I have seen geniuses but one person who has fascinated me by her excellent academic performances is none other than CUBS outgoing publicity secretary Ms Sharon Chela. There is a myth that has existed for a long time that people who join Pure Biology are those who did not manage to go to school of medicine. Looking at Sharon's career, that statement is false as Sharon made points for Medicine & Surgery but decided to put Biology a priority, a first option and joined this amazing field.

Sharon is a fourth year Microbiology dedicated student, during my second year I would see her get high scores in Analytical Chemistry and Bobby's course. I was amazed looking at the number of people who were failing but yet this brilliant young lady demonstrated the performance which seemed impossible to imitate. While in third year, Sharon managed to obtain enough points leaving her with only 10 points to get a DISTINCTION which I have no doubt she will only need two courses this year to obtain a DISTINCTION.

Despite her active participation in the Society affairs, Sharon has maintained the same academic performance. This year she managed to get 100% four times in different courses. Leadership does not take away Brilliance from those who are disciplined and dedicated.

Sharon leaves CBU & CUBS as a true role model, she sets a high standard for academic excellence and inspires those around her to strive for their best. As the CBU Biology Society outgoing President, I wish this colleague of mine all the best in her future endeavors.
