CABINET MEETING REPORT - 19th October 2024
The 19th Cabinet Meeting, held on 15th October 2024, was presided over by President Hakainde Hichilema at State House. The meeting focused on policy and legislative matters to enhance socio-economic development in Zambia.
Bills Approved for Publication and Introduction in Parliament:
- The Plant Health Bill, 2024: Protects plant resources, regulates pest control, and prevents the spread of pests and diseases.
- The Zambia Institute of Quantity Surveyors Bill, 2024: Regulates quantity surveying professionals and organizations.
- The Green Economy and Climate Change Bill, 2024: Addresses climate change adaptation, mitigation, and disaster risk reduction.
- The Local Authorities Superannuation Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2024: Revises retirement benefits and commutation factors.
- The Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2024: Strengthens laws against hatred, ridicule, and contempt.
- The Judiciary Administration (Amendment) Bill, 2024: Harmonizes judiciary administration and training.
Bills Approved in Principle:
- Lands (Amendment) Bill, 2024: Aligns land laws with the National Lands Policy of 2021.
- The Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Bill, 2024: Establishes ZNBC as a public service broadcaster.
- The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Bill, 2024: Strengthens broadcasting industry regulation.
Statutory Instrument:
- The Insurance (Tribunal) Rules, 2024: Operationalizes the ad hoc Insurance Tribunal.
