As PIA Ambassadors, the Mulungushi University Actuarial Science Association recently represented the Pensions and Insurance Authority at the Trade Fair in the Copperbelt — and this time, we were the ones teaching.

For months, we've been trained on how to communicate insurance and pension concepts simply and effectively. This was our chance to put that training into action, engaging directly with the public, answering questions, clearing up misconceptions, and giving everyday Zambians real insight into how insurance and pensions can protect their future.
It was more than an event ,it was a reminder of why this work matters. Financial literacy starts with conversations like these, and every person we spoke to left with a little more clarity and confidence about securing their financial future.

Proud of every MUASA member who stepped up to educate, engage, and represent with purpose.

MUASA students recently visited Longhorn Associates for an educational industrial tour where we learned about Unit Trusts, investing, and how the Lusaka Securities Exchange Plc (LuSE) operates. The experience gave us valuable insight into Zambia's financial markets and helped us better understand the role of investment and risk management in the actuarial profession. Learning beyond the classroom!
Members of the Mulungushi University Actuarial Science Association recently visited Longhorn Associates for an eye-opening industrial tour covering Unit Trusts and the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE). 💡
Here's what we learned:
- The Longhorn Unit Trust pools investors' money into a single fund managed by Longhorn Associates Limited, regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Zambia

- Unit Trusts make money through unit appreciation and periodic distributions from interest, dividends and other income

- Regulatory fees on LuSE trades are 0.125% (SEC) + 0.25% (LuSE) + 0.125% (LCSA), with brokerage fees indicatively at 1.5% on both buy and sell sides

As actuarial students, understanding investment vehicles and capital markets is core to our profession. Zambia's financial market is growing and so are we! 🇿🇲

The Mulungushi University Actuarial Science Association (MUASA) had an enriching and insightful industrial tour at Prudential Insurance. This experience exposed students to the structure and operations of the insurance and financial industry, highlighting the crucial role actuaries play in assessing risks, ensuring company solvency, and managing pension and insurance systems.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Prudential Insurance for hosting us and making this educational tour a great success. The knowledge gained and warm reception truly left us inspired and motivated.

We visited Prudential insurance company and gained practical insights into how an insurance company operates. We learnt how actuarial science is applied in insurance pricing, risk management, solvency assessment, and profitability. The visit also exposed us to the day-to-day operations of the insurance industry and the various career opportunities available in the actuarial profession.

Everyone was happy, people where dancing. Despite some challenges we still managed to pull a very big event.
This fairwell bry party was the best shout out to the executives for muasa who managed to organize such a memorable big event, shout out to the Event committee chaired by Mr Illunga Isaac our event coordinator and a Big thank you to you all guys who managed to be present it would have not been possible without you guys and for those who couldn't make it we hope to see you next time ,Thank you 😊🙏🏽.
