Being an economist is not only about theories, graphs, research, and numbers, but also about making sure economics is truly serving people and the shared planet too. Economics should help improve lives, reduce poverty, fight inequality, and promote a society where everyone has an opportunity to live with dignity. Every action matters, and real economics must be seen through positive impact in communities, not only in classrooms and textbooks.

It is inspiring to see the Cavendish University Rethinking Economics Chapter together with the Faculty of Business, Information and Technology supporting the Mukoza Center orphanage through donating groceries and stationery. This is the kind of fresh thinking and practice we love to see in economics, economics with humanity, responsibility, and action.

Many economic theories, especially neoclassical economics, claim that economics exists to serve people and improve welfare, but in reality many communities still face poverty, unemployment, inequality, hunger, and environmental challenges. That is why initiatives like these are important because they remind us that economics should not only focus on profits and markets, but also on people, communities, and sustainability. Big respect to everyone who contributed and made this possible, especially the representative of Rethinking Economics Cavendish University, Michelle Sakindi and the entire group❤️❣️☺️🥰.

Here at Rethinking Economics Nkrumah University and Rethinking Economics Institute of Technology, the newly formed groups in Zambian space, there is so much energy and inspiration in the room. Listening to their aspirations, motivations, and interests—especially their reasons for establishing a Rethinking Economics groups at their institution respectively—shows a strong commitment to questioning conventional economic thinking and exploring ideas that are more inclusive, diverse, and relevant to the realities of our societies. This collective enthusiasm reflects a growing desire among students to reshape economics so that it better addresses the social, environmental, and developmental challenges of our time.
