De-stigmatize "side-hustling"
2. No amount of education will make you "above" running a small businessnyana. Even with a PhD you can sell peanuts and scale that into the million rand business over the years.
3. Forget about people. They will always talk down on you. If there is something impressive about you they discuss it for 3 minutes. If there is something unimpressive about you they discuss you for 3 hrs. That's just how they are, forget them. They will all die eventually and the time they wasted on earth discussing the shortcomings of others would have been their waste of their limited time on earth.
4. Don't be afraid of reinvention. An engineer can be a baker on the side. A teacher can be a carpenter in the evenings. A policeman can be a crime novel author on his downtime. You are not a prisoner to your job title.
5. Effective time management makes it all possible.
6. Don't be embarrassed to sell second hand goods or things that aren't premium. An Australian billionaire built a billion rand company selling used cellphones back in the 90s.
7. Stop worrying about personal brand. Yes you have a reputation. But does it feed you? If it doesn't then focus on making money. We are not responsible for the perceptions people choose to craft about us. People tend to underestimate you if you aren't flashy and overestimate you if you are flashy. Meaning peoples' estimation is based on visuals. That is very ignorant. Fight with the desire to present perfect optics for the consumption of people who won't help you with R100 if you were in financial Trouble.
8. Fear of failure, quit this. Failing is painful but it turns you into a beast! Remember the difference between a master and a beginner is not that the master has succeeded more times than the beginner but that the master has failed more times.
9. Learn to dump friends the say way you dump lovers whose presence in your life no longer serves you. If you are a sidehustler hang out with other sidehustlers. Skeem with your type.
10. On the subject of serving. Be in service of your dreams and not in service of people's impression of you.
11. Choose to believe that your best effort within the circumstances will be enough. You are enough, your knowledge is enough, your strategy is enough. Start doing. You'll fix it later. As of now you are ready, you have enough, you are enough. Start.
12. Learn to recite these lessons everyday. And teach others as well because this wisdom is as old as the mountains. Nothing new under the sun. And it works.
