Fear of the dark – Separation Anxiety
“Great news my daughter slept in her own bed, with lights off in the bedroom last night. She is so proud of herself”, feedback from a client whose daughter (8 years old) had such a fear of the dark her brother had to sleep in her bed at night many nights and there had to be a lamp on in the bedroom. She couldn’t go anywhere on her own especially in the dark.
Fear of the dark can be linked to separation anxiety. A child’s need to sleep in their parents bed / bedroom, a child clinging onto a parent in social settings, can be Separation anxiety. Separation anxiety is the general fear of abandonment from another person, place, thing etc. This can be a deep down rooted fear which cannot be controlled by a child or even an adult that experiences this fear.
I have found that when working on the Fear Paralysis, Moro and Bonding reflexes, it dramatically reduces the deep routed separation anxiety and that "fear of the dark".
The bonding reflex is key when working with emotional fragility as well as co-dependent relationships. This reflex is the a complex reflex which forms the feeling of comfort, harmony, safety and feeling protected and feeling taken care of. This reflex also has a strong impact on our own ability to give and receive love. This reflex can be interrupted and have a delayed integration especially for those babies born and taken away from their mother those first moments of life.
To assist your child with re-integrating this reflex I would highly recommend quality bonding time with your child, hugging, squeezing and rocking with your child and affirming to them that they are loved, accepted and appreciated. This is a powerful embrace and can assist and strengthen a bond between parent and child. A powerful process to do for yourself as well, by giving yourself a self-hug and gently rocking from side to side and affirming positive affirmations of self-love to yourself.
I believe that to receive unconditional love, the key is to give yourself unconditional self-love. What you give to yourself you allow others to give to you.
Have some fun, give yourself a moment of self-love today and repeat self-love affirmations and let me know how that makes you feel today.
Sending much love to you all.
With love Andrea

Teachers & Parents learn to assist your children: improve concentration, become calmer & less anxious as well as to be more effective. Learn how movement integrates the brain.
Become a Brain Gym® Movement Facilitator - complete BG104 (2day), Brain Gym 101 (4day) and BG110 courses.
Many teachers and parents have found that by doing Brain Gym® with the children for only five minutes a day improves concentration, the children are calmer and more integrated. Teaching has become easier for the teachers who do Brain Gym® daily with their class. (‘Grade 3 students at Breslau School Ontario, Canada, went from poor testing results to over 80% of the Gr 3 students achieving A’s and B’s in the EQAO – after exposure to Brain Gym®.')

Trauma & Stress recovery & Healing the body
When you are feeling stressed or experience trauma – you feel it physically in your body: muscles tense up, heart palpitations, trembling, stomach & head pains. There is more research evidence now that trauma that is not fully processed or acknowledged “stores” in the body. Everything that happens to us emotionally and psychologically it happens to our bodies as well – everything is connected.
When we experience an overwhelming level of stress beyond the ability of the body and nervous system to cope, we enter trauma. Traumatic stress severely impacts personal functioning, interpersonal relationships and employment, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression and somatisation.
In acute stress conditions you can see - panic reactions, chronic anxiety, confusion, dissociation, lack of trust, insomnia, poor sleep patterns, and difficulty with basic self-care, work, schooling and relationships. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), hyper-vigilance, and emotional numbness.
Ever watch an impala escape from a lion? The impala will shake violently after the event. Animals release stress by shaking – it’s a physical release of a traumatic experience.
When stress & trauma is not fully dealt with or acknowledged it can become “stored” in the body and become somatised. Which is genuine physical complaints rather than emotional distress when the stress or trauma is too scary to process mentally. If we can’t talk about it, our body talks for us.
Healing Trauma:
By connecting more with your body through touch, reflex integration, physical movement, deep belly breathing, shaking, dancing, through a physical activation and release the stresses built up in the body can be shifted.
Reflex patterns govern our actions, behaviour, and thoughts in traumatic stress, they are also a key resource for positive survival and neurodevelopment.
The MNRI® method (Masgutova Neurosensorimotor Reflex Integration) for addressing Post-Trauma and PTSD is a gentle, rapid and effective intervention modality that restores the integrity of the primary motor reflex patterns and drastically improves the course of recovery from traumatic stresses.
Reflexes are essential for future motor, sensory, emotional, and cognitive development. MNRI, focuses primarily on protective reflex functions to improve stress resilience and neural connectivity.
Don’t let your past affect your tomorrow, commit to let go of your stressors and trauma. Move your body and allow the emotions to be released. Seek support to get your power back.
I would love to support you through it if you need the extra support.
