GTC Athletes Shine at Free State Cross Country Championships, Eye National Qualification

​BLOEMFONTEIN — On Saturday, 15 August 2026, athletes from GTC competed in the Free State Cross Country Championships held in Bloemfontein. The event served as the pinnacle of the provincial cross-country season, culminating a series of rigorous league events from League 1 through the final stages.

​The Free State Championships acted as the ultimate qualifying event for the upcoming ASA National Cross Country Championships, which will take place on 5 September 2026 in Pretoria.

​GTC athletes delivered exceptional performances across their respective categories throughout the event. Following these standout results, the club is highly optimistic that several of its runners will earn selection to the official Free State provincial team traveling to Pretoria.

On 13 August 2026, learners from Rheeder Park Combined School were treated to a special day of glamour and transformation as they received free hairdressing services for their Matric Farewell at Goldfields TVET College. 💇🏽‍♀️💇🏽‍♂️🎓

The services were proudly provided by Goldfields TVET College Hairdressing students, who generously offered their skills and expertise to help the matriculants look and feel their best. 💇🏽‍♀️✨

This initiative was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Nozezina Maile Investment, whose support contributed to making this special experience possible. 🙏🏽❤️

CELEBRATING SUCCESS THROUGH SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Goldfields TVET College proudly hosted a Stakeholder Lunch on 13 August 2026 at the Welkom Campus, bringing together valued stakeholders and partners under the theme:

“Celebrating Success Through Skills Development: Honouring Goldfields TVET’s Contribution to Entrepreneurship and Community Development.”

The event provided an opportunity to celebrate the College’s achievements, reflect on its strategic priorities, and recognise the important role of stakeholder collaboration in advancing skills development, entrepreneurship and community development.

The programme featured insightful contributions from the College Principal, College Council Chairperson, industry and business stakeholders, financial institutions, SETAs and other key partners. The keynote address was delivered by Mr SS Dhladhla, Acting CEO of Services SETA, while Mrs K Mothobi, Director of Tailor-Made Trading, shared her inspiring journey to success.

The College extends its sincere appreciation to all stakeholders who continue to support and partner with Goldfields TVET College in creating opportunities for our students, strengthening entrepreneurship and contributing to the socio-economic development of our communities.

As previously promised, here are the winners of the provincial/regional Allan Gray Inter-College pitching competition. They four of them will be representing the province at the National finals at the Radisson Blu Hotel and Convention Centre, OR Tambo, Johannesburg. Goldfields TVET Colley will represent the free state with 3 participants and one will come from Flavious Mareka. We wish all of them the best of luck as they represent the province in this tough competition.

The free state region held its allan gray competition today hosted by Goldfields TVET College at the skills and innovation centre. All four colleges competed for the top spot in the categories of Idea, Tech, Trade and General. Lookout for the next post where we will share today's results and who will represent the free state at the finals on the 4th September 2026.
