Welgemoed Primary School

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup excitement building around the globe, the buzz in our school is at an all-time high!

This morning, Grade 4 learner Edin van Heerden brought a very special piece of South African football history to Miss de Wet’s class. Edin proudly shared the Bafana Bafana number 13 jersey worn by his and his sister Maddison’s dad, Marc van Heerden.

Marc, a proud Welgemoed Primary parent, enjoyed an impressive 20-year professional football career. Known as a formidable defender and free-kick specialist, he represented clubs including AmaZulu, Orlando Pirates, Stellenbosch FC and Cape Town City, while also proudly wearing the South African national jersey between 2013 and 2015.

Adding to the excitement, our educators showed their football spirit by dressing up in their favourite fan gear and team colours, bringing even more World Cup energy to the day!

Welgemoed Primary’s top maths minds recently participated in the internal Peregrine Capital 24SumMore competition. Over several rounds, learners put their problem-solving skills to the test in a challenge that requires quick thinking, smart strategies and a love for mathematics. Classrooms buzzed with excitement as participants stretched their mental muscles and embraced the challenge with enthusiasm.

From left are Welgemoed’s top three 24SumMore winners: Sonya Oosthuizen, Dayna McLachlan and Handré Wiggill. Dayna was crowned the overall winner, while she and runner-up Sonya have progressed to the next round, where they will represent Welgemoed and compete against learners from neighbouring schools.

Congratulations to Olivia and Leah Kotze, who proudly represented South Africa at the DanceStar World Dance Masters Championship in Croatia. Their team achieved 1st place in Modern Jazz and 3rd place in Hip Hop. We are incredibly proud of this outstanding international achievement. Well done, girls! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
