Sadly we have been closed due to the Foot and Mouth endemic in SA - alpacas are carriers rather than sufferers so until things improve we are not having visitors. This is an unexpected wipeout for our centre. We will let you know when things improve ASAP

A busy day at the Walker ville show today! At first, Cusco and Chachani didn't know what to make of all the clucking and crowing from the chickens next door but soon settled down and even went for walks around the stalls. Many thanks to the JHb weavers and spinners Guild that joined me on both days.

Fire..our most frightening enemy! Running along Plot 1, down the side and the bottom of the alpaca centre, trying to move alpacas out of danger ..the boys run down the road in the opposite direction with me trying to get them back, moving the girls as the fire already reached their field...scary stuff! Then beating out the fire and constant trips to smouldering stumps...and in the middle of it all, a car pulls up asking if we are the alpaca centre - yes... but we have evicted the alpacas and have quite a bit on hand right now!

It's so heartwarming to see people enjoying their hand spun and handwoven items!
