FACE TO FACE WITH CANCER ( My personal testimony thus far)
Suddenly Iām faced by it; this intimidating, mysterious entity; this roaring lion that wants to consume me as it has been doing to so many for ages! A Goliath who mockingly and full of bravado challenges the God of the eternal Gospel and who humiliates and belittles Godās people! So often in these situations our initial reactions driven by shock and fear is to deny the obvious with āsurely, this canāt be happening to meā OR we fall back on a kind of blind faith full of bravado declaring, āI will fight this thing and I will overcome it!ā
However, when I become still and return to the waters of reflection ( Psalms 23:2-3; James 1:2-25; 2 Cor.3:18-19) and there in the mirror of Godās Word, I re-discover my true face (identity!) in the beautiful face of my Redeemer, the Incarnated Word who has now become the Life-Giving Spirit in me! In this safe place of intimacy I REMEMBER that I am one spirit with Him! (1 Cor. 6:17) so organically one with Him like a branch in a Vine while the life-giving sap of the Vine flows continuously and effortlessly through the branch causing it to produce Jesus-honoring fruit! In this place under the mighty wings of the Almighty, I REMEMBER that I stand in an eternal covenant with Him, a covenant wherein I was included without any contribution, effort or achievement from my side but solely based on the precious blood of the Lamb of God, and solely based on His obedience to and faith in Dadās ability and faithfulness to raise Him from the dead! And so I also remember dat I donāt stand in an isolated or individualistic relationship with God, but together with Christās body I participate in Jesusā life, His faith, His joy and His loving intimacy with Abba! WHO OR WHAT CAN SEPARATE ME FROM ABBAā S LOVE? In the same way I also REMEMBER that every single prophetic utterance over millennia have all become āYesā and ā Amenā in Jesus Christ! Therefore they are also true for me, you and the rest of humanity because in Christ we are indeed the Seed, for in Him we live and move and discover our true being! We are the true Israel of God and heirs according to the promises! In Christ we also REMEMBER that the Head, Jesus gave us as His body on earth the keys of the Kingdom!
KEY 1: THE KINGDOM IS WITHIN YOU
Weāre not waiting for Godās kingdom, because this kingdom is within us. We are seated in the Throne Room with Christ and we participate in His governance of the cosmos as kings and as priests! We are joint-heirs with Jesus and heirs of our Father and like in the story of the ālost sonā we are unconditionally accepted and treated as royalty. In this place of unconditional love and spontaneity, the hypocrisy of man-made piety does not fit in and the superior claims of religious works and service to God ( like the elder brother!) are frankly disgusting!
KEY 2: āIN MY NAMEā
Our governance on this planet takes place in His NAME! His name represents His CHARACTER, His BEING, His AUTHORITY, His MINISTRY and His PERSON ! When we pray or decree things in His NAME it has to do with so much more than etymology, or the pronunciation of His name or whether we use the Hebrew, Greek or Arsmaic version of His name because we act in the full knowledge of His qualities, His authority and His being! āIn the name of Jesusā is so much more than an addendum to our prayers!
KEY 3: āI BELIEVE THEREFORE I SPEAK,ā
The way we govern on this planet is through the power of the Word! āNear you is the Word, in your heart and in your mouthā ( Rom. 10:8;Our Champion and Lord is indeed the incarnated Word and in our union with Him, He makes war and He executes judgement, āNow out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of ironā¦ā( Rev.19:15) This is a corporate reality because as the ā body is one with many members, so is Christā (1 Cor.12:12). We believe that as we speak to the mountains and command them to disappear in the sea of forgetfulness, so it will be!
KEY 4: āYOU ARE GODāS TEMPLEā
After the cross God has only one TEMPLE wherein He dwells and through which He is showing forth His glory to the cosmos! Individually and corporately we are His address here on earth and this TEMPLE is the only one He is filling with His glory in order to enlighten the whole world and in order to bring all nations into its glorious light! Our bodies are extremely important, because among other things, it contains the most precious TREASURE! Christmas is the message that God came to His property in a body and not in some Superman-suit, as an angel or even as a phantom! God is passionate about His temple as we saw while it was still just a physical structure and shadow of the real thing in Jerusalem. Jesus entered into that structure and drove out all who corrupted that sacred space! Can you think how passionate Abba feels about our bodies? He will not allow any profane activities or corrupt elements in this sacred space that He has chosen to dwell in, and that He has chosen as a vessel to make His glorious presence known on this earth!
KEY 5: THE SECRET IS OUT
There is of course no kingdom independent of a king and therefore the message that the apostle Paul literally sacrificed his life for, namely that there was a mystery, a secret that was hidden from the ages, from angels and even largely from the prophets up unto the time of the INCARNATION! This secret was then revealed through his ministry and it basically boiled down to the fact that Christ was now living in all through no achievement of their own but solely through His successful and finished work on the cross! The King has come to take back His property! The tragedy is that 2000 years after this revelation this truth is still a āsecretā to the masses because they have not heard this splendid news and if they heard anything resembling the Gospel it was a mixture of law and grace, of shadow and reality, or of futuristic and dispensational mumbo jumbo where often physical Israel gets more attention than Jesus Christ! Some heard a gospel thatās telling them how excluded they were until they could manage to jump through all sorts of hoops including their own āfaithā in order to be saved! Instead of hearing the good news about how Jesusā faith redeemed the cosmos and that our believing this good news is a grace-gift and response to the awesome Gospel! This is why Paul made it clear in Ephesians 4:5 that there is āone Lord, one Faith, one Baptismā
KEY 6: THE CHRIST-LIFE
For the New Creation there is only one LAW, the LAW OF THE CHRIST-LIFE and this life is IN us! We were liberated from all other laws and no law can stand in competition to the LAW OF THE CHRIST-LIFE. No other law can resist or overcome the LAW OF THE CHRIST-LIFE In us! You see this LAW flows from the Spirit of Father who caused the dead body of Jesus to come forth out of the tomb! Romans 8:11 makes it clear that this same Spirit is working in us, quickening and restoring our mortal bodies. This is not some future spiritual body, but He is now restoring these physical bodies of ours to glorify Jesus! āLet those who have ears hear what the Spirit says to His people!ā
KEY 7: THE FUTURE IS HERE!
For the New Creation( that is you and me!) the New Heavens and the New Earth have already come! Jesusā coming, His parousia ( PRESENCE) is a daily reality because even though the world may not see Him ( yet!) we see Him and weāre seated with Him in the Throne Room and we live from the bosom of the Father! Weāre not waiting for Jesus to come and fetch us because He already came back for us and included us in the Eternal Covenant. He already introduced us in the heavenly congregation to Father and the myriads of angels there sayingā Here am I and the children you have given meā( Hebrew.2:13) Our faith calls the things that appear not as real in the physical as if it is already real because our perspective and focus are on the spiritual dimension where all things are possible and where God has settled His Word! We donāt just accept human opinion or even human expertise! While we accept the factualness of doctors-reports and laboratory-results, we choose to accept and believe the TETELESTAI-REPORT ( It is finished!) which was clearly shouted out on a wooden cross 2000 years ago!
Our focus stays on the unseen things because the things that are seen are temporary, but the unseen things are eternal( 2 Cot.4:18) So when we look at our bodies, we look at something that is visible and this can intimidate us when we see signs of aging or experience symptoms of illness and disease! However, we could remember Abraham, our father in the faith when confronted with a choice between Godās promise and his lifelong experience of the realities of the material world. However, āAnd being not weak in faith, HE CONSIDERED NOT HIS OWN BODY NOW DEAD when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the DEADNESS OF SARAāS WOMBā ( Rom. 4:19) Abraham had a covenant-promise from God and when doubt came, he probably remembered what his name was, āFather of many nationsā and so he must have kept affirming Godās promises to him until he saw and experienced the fruition of his faith and patience! Believe it or not but as the New Creation we are walking in the fulness of everything promised to Abraham and his SEED. Thatās also why Psalm 91:7 makes it clear to those who dwell in the Secret Place of the Most High (Jesus Christ!) that they do not have to calculate the data about how many also ābelievedā and yet died or how many perished despite being āgood peopleā! āA thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.ā
In these moments when I rediscover my true identity and consider my calling from many years ago, I suddenly look with new eyes to this roaring lion that threatens to consume me and to quiet my voice. In this looking I notice that this lion is teethless and full of false bravado and showmanship! I remember that the giant Goliath had no covenant with the living God and that despite his impressive and heavy armour he was actually very vulnerable! Itās in these quiet moments that I hear the sweet whispers of my Dad and then, even the symptoms designed to intimidate, become signals that remind me that the Spirit of Him who raised Jesusā body from the dead is actively and lovingly quickening my mortal body! ššš
