🌍✨ Parenting Tip: Learning About the Seasons Builds Language & Understanding ✨🌍
Did you know that teaching children about the seasons helps develop not only their general knowledge, but also important language and communication skills? 🌟
When children learn about the seasons, they begin to understand the world around them in meaningful ways. They learn to observe changes in weather, nature, clothing, activities and routines — all while building vocabulary and comprehension skills.
Learning about the seasons helps children develop:
🔹 Vocabulary development – Learning words linked to weather, clothing, nature and activities
🔹 Observation skills – Noticing changes in the environment
🔹 Communication skills – Talking about experiences and describing what they see
🔹 Sequencing and understanding time – Recognising patterns and changes throughout the year
🔹 General knowledge – Building awareness of the world around them
These everyday conversations help children connect language to real-life experiences, making learning more meaningful and memorable.
💡 Try this at home:
Talk about the current season during daily activities.
Ask questions like:
“What season are we in now?”
“How does the weather feel today?”
“What clothes do we wear in winter/summer?”
“What changes do you see outside?”
You can also read seasonal stories, go on nature walks or create simple seasonal art activities together. 🍂☀️🌸❄️
When children learn about the seasons, they are not just learning about weather — they are developing language, curiosity and confidence in understanding the world around them. 💙
Strong language foundations lead to confident communication and lifelong learning.

Learning through creativity 🎨✨
At Active learning, even something as simple as marble art becomes a powerful learning experience.
Crafts aren’t just about making something pretty — they help children explore, experiment and express themselves in meaningful ways. With marble art, children roll, tilt and guide the paint, watching colours mix and patterns form right before their eyes.
Through activities like this, children develop:
🔹 Fine motor skills – Strengthening hand control and coordination
🔹 Creativity – Exploring colours, patterns and self-expression
🔹 Problem-solving – Figuring out how to move the marble to create different effects
🔹 Focus and patience – Watching and adjusting as they create
🔹 Cause and effect – Understanding how movement changes the outcome
It’s hands-on, engaging and full of discovery — exactly how young minds learn best.
Because when children create, they’re not just making art… they’re building skills for life 💛

Parenting Tip: Grouping — A Powerful Start to Maths Success 🔢✨
Did you know that early maths skills are one of the strongest predictors of later academic success — even more than early reading skills? 🌟
One of the key foundations of these skills is grouping. When children learn to group objects, they begin to understand how numbers work in meaningful, practical ways.
Grouping isn’t just sorting — it helps children see relationships, quantities and structure, which are essential for future maths learning.
When children practise grouping, they develop important skills:
🔹 Number sense – Understanding “how many” in a group
🔹 Early multiplication thinking – Seeing numbers as groups (e.g. 2 groups of 3)
🔹 Comparison – Recognising more, less and equal
🔹 Organisation – Structuring and making sense of information
🔹 Problem-solving – Figuring out how items belong together
Without this foundation, numbers can feel abstract. But when children physically group objects, maths becomes something they can see, touch and understand.
💡 Try this at home:
Encourage your child to group everyday items — buttons, snacks, toys or blocks.
Ask questions like:
“How many groups can we make?”
“Can we make equal groups?”
“What happens if we add one more to this group?”
Keep it hands-on and playful — the more they explore, the deeper their understanding grows.
When children learn to group, they’re not just organising objects — they’re building the foundation for confident, successful learning.
Strong foundations lead to strong futures 💛
