The College has taken another significant step towards strengthening the link between education, industry and the workplace through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ArcelorMittal South Africa (AMSA).
The MoU establishes a framework for hosting College students whose qualifications are aligned with the skills and occupational needs of the host employer. More than a formal agreement, the partnership creates an opportunity for students to translate classroom knowledge into practical workplace competence and gain exposure to real industry environments.
The partnership is particularly important as the College continues to expand its occupational qualifications offering. With programmes aligned to areas such as engineering, manufacturing, information technology, automotive and other occupational fields, strong industry partnerships are essential to ensuring that training remains responsive to the needs of the economy.
This Workplace exposure will enable students to experience real production systems, technologies, occupational health and safety requirements, teamwork, professional discipline and employer expectations.
Through this partnership, students will strengthen key employability competencies such as problem-solving, communication, accountability, punctuality and the ability to apply technical knowledge in practical environments.
For the College, the partnership will also provide an opportunity to strengthen curriculum responsiveness and a better understanding to the evolving skills requirements of industry.
As Industry partnerships are an important investment in the future workforce. They will benefit students by creating pathways from qualification to workplace competence, benefit industry by contributing to the development of a skilled talent pipeline, and ultimately benefit the broader community by strengthening opportunities for economic participation.
As technology, automation, digitalisation and advanced manufacturing continue to transform the workplaces, The College will remain closely connected to industry to ensure that students are prepared not only for employment, but for the future of work.
The MoU with ArcelorMittal South Africa represents a commitment to moving beyond the traditional boundaries of classroom-based learning and creating stronger pathways into the world of work.
The ultimate measure of the partnership will be the opportunities created for students to gain meaningful workplace experience, develop occupational competence, enter the labour market and contribute to the growth of industry and the economy.
This partnership therefore represents more than the signing of an agreement. It is about building bridges between learning and work, between the College and industry, and between today’s students and tomorrow’s skilled professionals.
