Shonkweni Primary School held a heritage day celebration on the 22/09/2026 to reinforce Unity in Diversity. Educators and learners were on their traditional attire showcasing their specific heritage,such as Zulu,Xhosa,Sotho,Ndebele etc. .

Today, 21 September 2026, we proudly celebrate Gugu P. Mjilo, our very own former learner of Shonkweni Primary School, on the occasion of her book launch at Scottburgh Library.

The entire Shonkweni Primary School community is immensely proud to see one of our former learners reaching such a wonderful milestone. Gugu's work, determination and ever-positive spirit are truly worth celebrating.

Seeing our former learners continue to grow, pursue their dreams and make a positive contribution to society reminds us why education matters. Once a Shonkweni learner, always part of the Shonkweni family. 💙📖

Sanibonani Bazali ekuseni. 🙏🏽

Bazali, isimo sezulu asisihle namhlanje, ngakho-ke ukuphepha kwabantwana bethu kumele ngaso sonke isikhathi kube seqhulwini kukho konke esikwenzayo.

Ngenxa yalesi simo sezulu esingesihle, sicela umzali ngamunye abheke isimo sendawo ahlala kuyo kanye nendlela umntwana ahamba ngayo uma eya esikoleni, bese ethatha isinqumo esizobeka ukuphepha komntwana phambili.

Ngakho-ke, kuzoba sesinqumweni somzali ukuthi uyamdedela yini umntwana ukuba eze esikoleni namhlanje noma cha. Akekho umntwana ozobekwa icala noma ajeziswe ngokungabikho esikoleni namhlanje ngenxa yalesi simo sezulu.

📚❤️ 1,060 BOOKS DONATED TO SHONKWENI PRIMARY SCHOOL!

A heartfelt thank you to The Village Seed, an NPO from Ilfracombe, for generously donating 1,060 books to Shonkweni Primary School. 📖🌱

We also appreciate Pastor A. Khakhaza, Ms T. Cele, Ms N. Mkhaba and Omama Bemvelo – Waste Management (Recycling) for supporting this special occasion.

These books are more than a donation — they are an investment in literacy, knowledge and the future of our learners. 🌟

On Thursday, 03 September 2026, Shonkweni Primary School successfully hosted its Happy Entrepreneurs’ Day, an exciting and educational programme that gave our learners an opportunity to experience entrepreneurship in action. 💼💡💰

The school came alive as our young entrepreneurs displayed and sold a variety of products, interacted with customers and experienced some of the basic principles involved in running a small business. 🛍️🍭🍿🧁

Beyond the excitement and enjoyment, the day was an important learning experience. It encouraged our learners to develop valuable life skills such as creativity, financial literacy, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, planning and confidence. 📚🧠🤝

Entrepreneurship education helps our children understand that they can become creators of opportunities, innovators and future business owners, rather than only looking forward to becoming employees. Every successful entrepreneur once started with an idea! 🌱➡️🌳

👏 Congratulations to all our young entrepreneurs who participated with enthusiasm and confidence. We are proud of the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated throughout the day.

Shonkweni Primary School held its Career Simulation Day with a purpose to introduce students to different jobs, show them how school work connects to real life, and help them plan for their future.

It gives students a chance to meet working professionals and learn about new options.Core Goals Show new jobs: Help students see many different career choices they might not know about yet.Link school to work: Show how daily classroom lessons matter in real jobs.Meet role models: Let students talk to real workers, local business owners, and community helpers.

Shonkweni Primary School appreciates the support from the parents,educators ,learners and Guests (Dr Pendu - Motivational speaker). This program aims to motivate, encourage and support learning programs.

A memorable experience for grade 2 and 3 pupils on their educational excursion. Learning is a daily activity that does not happen in the classrooms only, our learners have experienced obstacle courses,team work,learning through play and career guidance.

The educational excursions are meant to break bearers by opening the learner's mind through outdoor activities, visual movable sources, instruction taking,discipline and commitment.

Shonkweni primary School appreciates the support from Parents,SGB,SMT and Educators in ensuring that the school works towards achieving its goals/vision (creating new path in learning).

On 27 August 2026, Shonkweni Primary School will celebrate the incredible power of language, reading, communication and confidence through our Intermediate & Senior Phase Mini Language Festival. 🌟

Our Grade 4–7 learners will have an opportunity to demonstrate their language abilities through a variety of exciting and meaningful activities designed to promote reading, speaking, critical thinking and effective communication.

✨ ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

📖 Grade 4 – Reading Scrabble
IsiZulu and English

📚 Grade 5 – Book Reviews
Learners will share their thoughts, understanding and appreciation of books.

🗣️ Grade 6 – Dialogue & Debate
Developing confidence, critical thinking and the ability to express ideas effectively.

🎙️ Grade 7 – Inkulumompikiswano, News Bulletin & Speech
Giving learners a platform to communicate, inform, persuade and inspire.

📚✨ SHONKWENI PRIMARY SCHOOL CELEBRATES THE POWER OF STORIES! ✨📚

On 24 August 2026, Shonkweni Primary School was filled with excitement, creativity and the beautiful sounds of young voices as our Foundation Phase learners took centre stage in our Storytelling Festival. 🎤📖🌟

From Grade R to Grade 3, our young learners demonstrated that reading and language development begin with the ability to listen, speak, imagine, express and tell stories.

🎭 Our programme showcased a variety of exciting activities, including:

🌍 Poetry and Language Activities
