🌱 𝗔𝗚𝗥𝗜-𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗞𝗬: 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗔𝗗 𝟭𝟭’𝗦 𝗩𝗢𝗟𝗧𝗢𝗢𝗜 𝗦𝗔𝗕𝗜-𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗘𝗜𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦𝗞𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗨𝗦

Merensky se graad 11-Landboutegnologieleerders het op 12 en 13 Augustus 2026 die geleentheid gehad om ’n waardevolle SABI-besproeiingskursus te voltooi. Die kursus is deur prof. Felix Reinders van SABI aangebied en het aan die leerders waardevolle teoretiese én praktiese kennis oor besproeiing gebied.

Op die eerste dag het die leerders die teoretiese aspekte van besproeiing behandel. Dag twee het met ’n teoretiese eksamen afgeskop, waarna hulle die kennis wat hulle opgedoen het, prakties in Merensky se boorde kon toepas. Dit was ’n uitstekende geleentheid om te sien hoe dit wat in die klaskamer geleer word, in die praktyk toegepas word.

Baie dankie aan Riana Lombaard-Smith en prof. Felix Reinders van SABI vir die moeite wat julle doen om ons leerders te bemagtig en julle kennis en ervaring met die volgende generasie landbouers te deel.

’n Spesiale woord van dank ook aan mnr. Louis Fourie vir die reëlings rondom die kursus en aan mnr. Marcu Retief vir sy hulp met die assessering.

Baie geluk aan ons graad 11’s wat hierdie geleentheid aangegryp het om hul kennis en vaardighede verder te ontwikkel!

🌱 𝗔𝗚𝗥𝗜-𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗞𝗬: 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗘 𝟭𝟭𝘀 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗘 𝗦𝗔𝗕𝗜 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘

Merensky’s Grade 11 Agricultural Technology learners had the opportunity to complete a valuable SABI irrigation course on 12 and 13 August 2026. The course was presented by Prof. Felix Reinders from SABI and provided the learners with valuable theoretical and practical knowledge of irrigation.

On the first day, the learners covered the theoretical aspects of irrigation. Day two started with a theoretical examination, after which they were able to apply the knowledge they had gained practically in Merensky’s orchards. It was an excellent opportunity to see how what is learnt in the classroom can be applied in practice.

A big thank you to Riana Lombaard-Smith and Prof. Felix Reinders from SABI for your efforts in empowering our learners and for sharing your knowledge and experience with the next generation of farmers.

A special word of thanks also goes to Mr Louis Fourie for organising the course and to Mr Marcu Retief for his assistance with the assessment.

🍽️ 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗞𝗬 𝗚𝗔𝗦𝗩𝗥𝗬𝗛𝗘𝗜𝗗𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗦: 𝗢𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗘𝗧𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗬 𝗞𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗠𝗔

Twee van Merensky se graad 12-Gasvryheidstudiesleerders, Dané Viljoen en Inge Miller, het van 14 tot 16 Augustus 2026 die besondere geleentheid gehad om ’n naweek by Kapama River Lodge Of South Africa deur te bring.

Die doel van die besoek was om die leerders aan die verskillende fasette van die gasvryheidsbedryf bloot te stel en hulle waardevolle praktiese ervaring te bied. Hulle het eerstehands gesien hoe die stelsels by die ontvangs, kamers en restaurant funksioneer.

Saterdag het hulle ná ontbyt saam met Chef Makhi die kombuis aangedurf, waar hulle onder meer roomys en sjokolade gemaak het. Chef Makhi het gou hul potensiaal raakgesien en hulle die geleentheid gegee om met die voorbereiding van middagetes vir die gaste te help. Dané en Inge het by die pizza-, burger-, sop- en sushi-afdelings hand bygesit en só waardevolle praktiese ervaring opgedoen.

Daar was darem ook tyd vir ontspanning! Wildsritte vroegoggend en saans was van die hoogtepunte van die naweek, met onder meer leeus, sebras, kameelperde, buffels, wildehonde, verskeie bokspesies, ’n luiperd en ’n renoster wat gesien is.

’n Spesiale woord van dank aan Chef Makhi, Zandri en Tony wat die groep tydens elke wildrit vergesel het, asook Ndzalama, hul persoonlike kelner, wat seker gemaak het dat hulle heerlike etes geniet.

Baie dankie ook aan Marelize en Christiaan Basson vir hierdie ongelooflike geleentheid wat aan Dané en Inge gebied is. Ervarings soos hierdie gee ons leerders die geleentheid om dit wat hulle in die klaskamer leer, in die praktyk te ervaar.

Wat ’n voorreg om ons Plasies op só ’n besondere manier aan die wêreld van gasvryheid bloot te stel!

🍽️ 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗞𝗬 𝗛𝗢𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗦: 𝗔𝗡 𝗨𝗡𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗔𝗧 𝗞𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗠𝗔

Two of Merensky’s Grade 12 Hospitality Studies learners, Dané Viljoen and Inge Miller, had the wonderful opportunity to spend a weekend at Kapama River Lodge from 14 to 16 August 2026.

The purpose of the visit was to expose the learners to the different facets of the hospitality industry and provide them with valuable practical experience. They gained first-hand insight into how the systems at reception, in the rooms and in the restaurant operate.

On Saturday, after breakfast, they joined Chef Makhi in the kitchen, where they made, among other things, ice cream and chocolate. Chef Makhi quickly recognised their potential and gave them the opportunity to assist with preparing lunch for the guests. Dané and Inge lent a hand at the pizza, burger, soup and sushi stations, gaining valuable practical experience along the way.

There was also time for some relaxation! Early-morning and evening game drives were among the highlights of the weekend, with sightings including lions, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, wild dogs, various antelope species, a leopard and a rhino.

A special word of thanks to Chef Makhi, Zandri and Tony, who accompanied the group on each game drive, as well as Ndzalama, their personal waiter, who ensured that they enjoyed delicious meals.

A big thank you also goes to Marelize and Christiaan Basson for providing Dané and Inge with this incredible opportunity. Experiences like these give our learners the chance to put what they learn in the classroom into practice.

What a privilege to expose our Plasies to the world of hospitality in such a special way!

🧁 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗞𝗬 𝗚𝗔𝗦𝗩𝗥𝗬𝗛𝗘𝗜𝗗𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗦: 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗔𝗗 𝟭𝟭 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛 𝗧𝗘𝗔

Merensky se graad 11-Gasvryheidstudiesleerders het hul laaste praktiese assesseringstaak (PAT) vir die jaar op ’n smaaklike noot afgesluit met ’n High Tea vir die onderwysers in die Appetito-restaurant.

Die leerders het ’n heerlike verskeidenheid eetgoed voorberei en voorgesit, waaronder ham-en-kaaswiele, samoesas, bessie-sjokoladekoek, truffels, laventelbrosbrood, vanieljekolwyntjies, komkommertoebroodjies en chai-jogurtkoppies.

En vanjaar was daar ’n lekker kinkel: melkskommels in plaas van tee!

Baie geluk aan ons graad 11-Gasvryheidstudiesleerders met die suksesvolle voltooiing van julle praktiese assesserings vir die jaar. Julle harde werk het beslis vrugte afgewerp!

Merensky’s Grade 11 Hospitality Studies learners rounded off their final Practical Assessment Task (PAT) for the year on a delicious note with a High Tea for the teachers at the Appetito Restaurant.

The learners prepared and served a delightful variety of treats, including ham and cheese pinwheels, samoosas, berry chocolate cake, truffles, lavender shortbread, vanilla cupcakes, cucumber sandwiches and chai yoghurt cups.

And this year there was a fun twist: milkshakes instead of tea!

Congratulations to our Grade 11 Hospitality Studies learners on successfully completing your practical assessments for the year. Your hard work certainly paid off!

Merensky se eerste en o.15A-krieketspanne het op Saterdag, 12 Augustus 2026, hul A-ligawedstryde teen Hoërskool Pietersburg gespeel. Die eerste span het in Polokwane kragte gemeet, terwyl die o.15A-span hul wedstryd tuis aangepak het.

🏏 𝘌𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘯 𝘷𝘴 𝘗𝘏𝘚

Merensky is vir 58 lopies in 17.4 boulbeurte uitgeboul, met Logan van Rensburg wat 20 lopies aangeteken het.

PHS het die teiken in 9.4 boulbeurte bereik en 59/4 aangeteken. Schalk Rossouw en Waldo Mouton het elk twee paaltjies geneem.

PHS wen met 6 paaltjies.

🏏 𝘰.15𝘈-𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘯 𝘷𝘴 𝘗𝘏𝘚

PHS het eerste gekolf en is vir 107 lopies in 34.4 boulbeurte uitgeboul.

Merensky se boulers het uitstekend gevaar:
• Danie Vorster – 4/11
• Willem Mostert – 3/19
• Rijas Patel – 2/19

Merensky het daarna die teiken gemaklik gejaag en 111/5 in 21.4 boulbeurte aangeteken. Willem Mostert het met 37* en Rheden Cordier met 28* onoorwonne gebly.

Merensky wen met 5 paaltjies!

Baie geluk aan Willem Mostert wat as Speler van die Wedstryd aangewys is.

Die Plasies se volgende A-ligawedstryde is op 22 Augustus teen Hoërskool Ben Vorster. Die eerste span speel tuis op Merensky, terwyl die o.15A-span weg speel.

Merensky’s first and U15A cricket teams played their A-League matches against Hoërskool Pietersburg on Saturday, 12 August 2026. The first team travelled to Polokwane, while the U15A team played their match at home.

Merensky were bowled out for 58 runs in 17.4 overs, with Logan van Rensburg scoring 20 runs.

PHS reached the target in 9.4 overs, scoring 59/4. Schalk Rossouw and Waldo Mouton each took two wickets.

PHS won by 6 wickets.

🐂 𝗔𝗚𝗥𝗜-𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗞𝗬: 𝗞𝗨𝗡𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗚𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗞𝗧𝗬𝗞

Merensky se graad 11-Landboubestuurspraktyk-leerders het op Donderdag, 13 Augustus, die geleentheid gehad om hul kennis van beesreproduksie en kunsmatige inseminasie (KI) prakties toe te pas.

Tydens die praktiese sessie het die leerders eerstehands kennis gemaak met die toerusting, voorbereiding en korrekte prosedures wat tydens kunsmatige inseminasie gebruik word. Hulle het ook geleer hoe belangrik korrekte hantering, higiëne, veiligheid en presisie is wanneer daar met teeldiere gewerk word.

Dié praktiese ervaring het die teoretiese werk wat in die klaskamer behandel word, op ’n waardevolle manier aangevul. Die leerders kon sodoende beter verstaan hoe kunsmatige inseminasie as ’n moderne reproduksietegniek in die veebedryf gebruik word om genetiese verbetering en doeltreffende teelbestuur te bevorder.

Dit is hierdie kombinasie van kennis, praktiese vaardighede en ervaring wat ons leerders vir die werklike landboubedryf voorberei.

Merensky’s Grade 11 Agricultural Management Practices learners had the opportunity on Thursday, 13 August, to put their knowledge of cattle reproduction and artificial insemination (AI) into practice.

During the practical session, the learners gained first-hand experience of the equipment, preparation and correct procedures used during artificial insemination. They also learnt the importance of correct handling, hygiene, safety and precision when working with breeding animals.

This practical experience complemented the theoretical work covered in the classroom in a valuable way. It gave the learners a better understanding of how artificial insemination is used as a modern reproductive technique in the livestock industry to promote genetic improvement and effective breeding management.

It is this combination of knowledge, practical skills and experience that prepares our learners for the real agricultural industry.
