Having an educational center based in a rural town allows the children to experience nature first hand. It is now pecan nut season and we forage every morning. Beulah always welcomes a cuddle. Clay does not come in plastic packets for us as we collect it straight from the source. We also enjoy long nature walks with the children or explore the surrounding areas on scooters and bicycles.

The long awaited harvest festival was met with eager anticipation from both children and parents alike. The children spent the whole week foraging, baking and picking out their prized produce to share at our feast. One child said, “I am so nervous that I’m shivering”. We told the story of Demeter, Persephone and Hades, and how the seasons came to be according to Ancient Greek mythology. We then shared pomegranates that did not come from the underworld but out of the school garden. Each child took a pomegranate home.

Enjoying meet and greet on our morning walk and then into baking our own buns for the harvest festival tomorrow. We enjoyed using as many farm fresh ingredients as possible such as freshly laid eggs from the teachers’ chickens and pure Free State honey.

The little things that we do on a typical day at Edu-Skills. Each child has a tailor-made routine that involves enriching activities such as word and number games with beanbags, working on the online school, going for nature walks and learning to play an instrument.

As of 2022, Edu-Skills in Trompsburg now offers aftercare services for school-age children from 14:00-17:00. There will be a set program that includes time for mental maths, homework supervision, computer coding and recorder lessons. Afterschool tutoring is also available.
Price list:
Tutoring @ R100 an hour per child
R75 an hour per child if there are 2 or more children in
the session (same grade and subject)
Aftercare @ R50 per afternoon 14:00-17:00
