National Online Learning Day was established in July of 2016. It recognizes the online education community with an official day focusing on the significant achievements made through online schooling and the students attending.

The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed the observance to be observed on September 15th annually.

A group of 100 parents of children at public schools in and around Johannesburg have written to Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga to rethink the reopening of schools – and to reduce school fees. This is their letter.

1. Parents can apply for homeschooling
2. A revised school calendar to be gazetted soon
3. Special schools will require a separate strategy for phasing in.
4. Spacing and screening of pupils - over-capacity schools pose a problem.
5. Learners will be screened for temperatures on a daily basis.
5. School transportation will have strict safety protocol.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said Cabinet and the National Coronavirus Command Council approved the decision for schools to reopen.
