On the 1st of February 2016, the Catholic Church, will, for the first time, celebrate the feast of the newly beatified Benedict Daswa who has been named an "Apostle of Life".
Blessed Benedict Daswa's feast day (1st February) coincides with the very same day that the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act, signed by the then President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, came into effect in 1997. In the words of the Guttmacher Institute, this act enshrines "one of the most liberal abortion laws in the world".
