The Shift Netball girls in Grade 00 and Grade R across both campuses have had a wonderful start to the winter season.
The players have been full of enthusiasm in their weekly lessons, developing important ball skills such as throwing, catching, shooting, dodging, rolling, shuffling and defending. They even played their first structured netball match with bibs and teams, which was a definite highlight.
With every session, their confidence, coordination and understanding of the game continues to grow. There was even more excitement as the girls received their very own Shift netball dresses, and they looked absolutely lovely in them.
We are now practising hard for the upcoming Shift Netball Sports Day on 20 June, and we cannot wait to see them shine on court!

During their lessons, they explored the exciting connection between music and theatre through lively group performances, experimenting with solos, duets, unison, harmony, backing vocals and tempo. Each element added variety, confidence and creativity to their performances.
The rhythm continued with cup percussion, where students created and performed patterned sequences together. This fun and focused activity encouraged timing, coordination, active listening and collaboration, as each group worked to stay perfectly in sync.
A vibrant celebration of performance, creativity and teamwork.

Both the Sunningdale and Blouberg Campus students have thoroughly enjoyed the cubing programme this term, putting their problem-solving skills to the test one twist at a time.
Many students mastered the 2x2 Rubikโs Cube, while others challenged themselves with more complex puzzles, including the 4x4. Along the way, they strengthened their pattern recognition, logical thinking, persistence and patience as they worked through each challenge at their own pace.
It was wonderful to see our young cubers growing in confidence, celebrating progress and discovering that learning and fun truly go hand in hand.

Working on a larger scale, they created expressive self-portraits with a wonderfully personal touch: their beloved pets featured as part of the background composition. Using two carefully selected watercolour colours, students explored abstract backgrounds, colour combinations and creative expression in a fresh and imaginative way.
To complete their artworks, each student designed a decorative frame in black marker, adding a bold, individual border to complement their portrait. The result is a collection of vibrant, character-filled pieces that beautifully reflect each studentโs creativity, personality and artistic confidence.

The Grade 0 students at our Blouberg Campus have been joyfully exploring the world of patterns in Numeracy.
Using bright, colourful blocks, they brought their ideas to life in 3D - building towers, shapes and sequences while learning to recognise, create and extend simple patterns. Through hands-on play, our students strengthened their early mathematical understanding in a fun and meaningful way.
This engaging activity also encouraged problem-solving, fine motor development and creative thinking, with plenty of proud smiles as their colourful patterns took shape. A beautiful reminder that big learning often begins with bright blocks and curious minds.

Before being introduced to standard units, they investigated length using a variety of non-standard measuring tools - from LEGO bricks and beans to counters, paper clips and other everyday objects. Through this hands-on activity, students measured, compared and discussed different lengths in creative and engaging ways.
The experience encouraged curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving, as students discovered that the tool you choose can influence the result. It was a wonderfully fun way to build strong mathematical understanding from the ground up.

Our Grade 5 students have been exploring the power of performance in the most creative way.
Inspired by dramatic, tense and exciting soundtracks, they created their own ensemble pieces, using movement, character roles and teamwork to bring stories to life. As they performed together, they grew in confidence, collaboration and expressive storytelling.
They also had great fun stepping into the world of cartoon-style voice-overs, experimenting with accents, voices, pitch and tone to give their characters personality and flair. Using technology to record and enhance their work added an exciting layer to the process, helping them develop creativity and performance skills in a playful and engaging way.

Our Grade 10 Design students wrapped up their latest project with creativity, colour and a few of their favourite things.
Inspired by the theme, โA few of my favourite thingsโ, students began with observational drawings before developing a unique motif to use as a repeated element in their own wrapping paper design.
Along the way, they explored the rich possibilities of gouache, experimented with colour relationships and combinations, and many tried their hand at using a ruling pen for the first time. The result was a beautiful collection of thoughtful, personal and visually striking designs - each one a celebration of creativity and individual expression.

We are delighted to celebrate Elkanah House alumnus, Rosco Charles, Class of 2012.
Since matriculating, Rosco has built an impressive career in the South African music industry, performing and collaborating with a range of local artists. Since 2018, he has held the role of resident drummer for renowned South African artist, Jack Parow - a remarkable achievement in an exciting and dynamic industry.
Beyond the stage, Rosco is deeply passionate about music education. As a marimba and drumming specialist at several schools in the Cape Town area, he continues to share his talent, expertise and love for music with the next generation of young musicians.
We are proud to celebrate Rosco and the meaningful mark he is making through rhythm, creativity and education -living out The Elkanah Way beyond the classroom.
