Why do we bake dragon-shaped bread at Michaelmas?

In Waldorf education, Michaelmas is a time to explore courage, inner strength, and the challenges we face within ourselves. Through the story of Saint Michael and the dragon, children discover that bravery means meeting fear with strength and purpose.

As little hands knead, shape, and decorate the dough with raisins, they connect with the gifts of the earth, the joy of creating, and the importance of working together.

The dragon becomes more than bread. It becomes a living picture of courage, creativity, and the inner strength we carry within.

In their Physics main lesson, Class 6 and 7 are exploring the fascinating world of magnetism, investigating attraction, repulsion and the invisible forces at work all around us.

Why chalk drawing on walls is so good for children:

Who says drawing belongs only on paper?

There is so much developmental value in giving children the freedom to draw on a wall.

Building strong bodies: Drawing on a vertical surface encourages children to use their shoulders, arms and hands, supporting coordination and the foundations for writing.

Growing clever little minds: Children develop hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, concentration and problem-solving as they create.

Encouraging creativity: A big wall becomes a canvas for imagination, self-expression and endless possibilities.

Building confidence: Children make choices, explore ideas and experience the joy of creating something of their own.

Learning together: Drawing side by side encourages sharing, cooperation and connection.

At our school, we believe that learning happens through movement, creativity, play and exploration.

Our Class 8 learners brought the world to life through food, culture and creativity!

As part of their Afrikaans project, they explored different countries, prepared delicious treats and proudly shared their creations with the school community. Experiencing Afrikaans in a living, meaningful way.
