The Media24 Rachel’s Angels Trust is an empowerment project that operates in the Western Cape, in association with the University of Stellenbosch. The project aims to contribute towards the building of excellence in high school education. The Trusts involves senior students from the university and local high schools. The students participate as mentors in a programme for learners from grades 11 and 12, enabling the learners to improve their academic abilities and enrich their life skills. The two year mentor/protégé relationship exists within a supportive framework which consists of workshops on various topics such as motivation, study techniques and learning methods, and the training of mentors. The programme also includes regular campus visits, attending lectures and exposure to the world of business. Through this process - experiential learning, mentoring by peers, exposure to academic life and the realities of the business world – students and learners are taught skills that will adequately equip them to play a meaningful role in society.
