A radio talk show recently asked a deceptively simple question: a mother wants to leave everything to the child who’s struggling financially, and nothing to the one who’s comfortable. Is that fair?

The phone lines lit up, because ‘fair’ means something different to everyone. And that’s exactly the risk of leaving it unsaid. A decision that makes perfect sense to you can look very different to the people left behind, and by the time your will is read, you’re no longer there to explain your reasoning.

That’s why the details matter: putting your wishes clearly in writing, keeping your will up to date as life changes, and helping the people you love understand the ‘why’, not just the ‘what’. You can’t guarantee everyone will agree, but you can make sure your intentions are clear enough to be honoured.

To our Commerce & Management students writing from today, and Financial Planning students from Wednesday, this is the moment everything’s been building towards.

A few things to hold onto as you go in. Nerves are normal; they don’t mean you’re unprepared. Read every question twice before you answer. Watch your timing so you never leave marks on the table for questions you actually knew. And if your mind blanks, move on and come back, the answer often surfaces the moment you stop chasing it.

Most importantly: you’re not on your own. Your lecturers and the MBSE team are here throughout, whether it’s a concept that won’t click, or you just need a steadying word.

There’s a particular doubt that stops people applying: ‘I’d love to, but I could never study while working / raising kids / running a home.’

Most of our graduates felt exactly that before they started. They had full-time jobs. They had families. They had all the same reasons to wait. What they also had was a way to study that flexed around their lives, and a team that made sure they never felt alone in it.

Watching someone cross that stage never gets old, because we know what it took, and we know they once stood exactly where you might be standing now, wondering if it was even possible. It was.

Applications for 2027 open on 19 October, and this could be the year you finally go for it. Keep an eye out.

The live exam prep sessions are one of the most useful things in your corner before October, but they work best when you come ready.

The real value is being able to put your questions straight to your lecturer, in the moment. So as you work through your revision, keep a running list of the things that aren’t clicking, and bring it along. You’ll get far more out of the session than you would arriving with a blank page.
