Prof Burtram C Fielding has been appointed as the new Dean of the Stellenbosch University, Faculty of Science at Stellenbosch University (SU). He specialises in the molecular biology of diseases such as viral infections and cancer.
This molecular biologist and prolific researcher is study leader to PhD, MSc and BSc Hons students and has contributed to a large number of book chapters and peer-reviewed publications. He is a recipient of various scholarships and scientific and academic awards.
โMy objective would be to enhance the faculty's standing as a globally recognised hub for research excellence and innovation," says Fielding.

โDid you know that SU has recently partnered with African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) to establish the ARM Geometallurgy Research Chair. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the research chair, it has been established as a shared position between Dr Bjorn von der Heyden from the Department of Earth Sciences and Dr Margreth Tadie from the Stellenbosch University - Department of Chemical Engineering. SU students who submit their final thesis or dissertation to SUNScholar after the examination process must make use of the new SU thesis or dissertation title page template for their title page.
All theses and dissertations submitted to SUNScholar must conform to this requirement by the December 2023 graduation.
The new thesis and dissertation title page templates (both MS Word and LaTeX versions) are housed on the SUNScholar webpage under "Step 1: Student prepares document."
