Isa Carstens® Academy was saddened to learn of the passing of Maja Grewe, an alumna of our institution.

Maja graduated in 1981 from the Stellenbosch Academy for Beauty Therapy, now Isa Carstens® Academy, and went on to contribute to the beauty and skincare industry throughout her professional career.

We acknowledge with appreciation her contribution to the profession and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and the wider professional community during this difficult time.

Our thoughts are with all those who knew and worked alongside her.

Our Pretoria third-year Somatology students recently brought their knowledge, creativity, and practical skills together by developing their own Signature Spa Treatments.

From creating their own exfoliations, wraps and masks to developing a treatment theme and considering the complete client experience, students were challenged to think beyond individual techniques and consider how each element worked together to create a cohesive treatment.

The experience gave them the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned, think creatively and build the professional confidence that will prepare them for the wellness industry.

Every technique begins with understanding the body. 💙
As part of their Somatology education, our students gain hands-on experience with techniques such as suction cupping, learning how gentle negative pressure is used to lift the skin and underlying tissue.

Through practical training, students explore how this technique can be used to support circulation, lymphatic drainage and the relief of muscular tension, while developing the knowledge and practical confidence needed to apply treatments professionally.

It’s another example of how theory becomes practice throughout the Somatology student journey.

There’s more to a professional manicure than meets the eye. Our first-year Somatology students have been developing their practical skills in professional manicure treatments and paraffin dip application, learning how the correct products, tools and techniques come together to provide effective care for the hands and natural nails.

But practical learning is also about making connections. During these sessions, students draw on knowledge from subjects such as Anatomy & Physiology and Cosmetic Ingredients, helping them understand not only how each step of the treatment is performed, but why it matters.

It’s this integration of theory and hands-on practice that helps students develop the knowledge, precision and professional confidence they’ll carry throughout their Somatology journey. 💙

Wellness Sanctuary by Isa Carstens® is seeking a skilled and service-focused 𝙉𝙖𝙞𝙡 𝙏𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙣 to join our Stellenbosch team.

This role focuses on delivering exceptional nail treatments, maintaining a consistently high standard of client care, and contributing to the Wellness Sanctuary's professional service culture. The successful candidate will also support retail opportunities, stock control and the ongoing development of services and treatments.

We're looking for someone with:
✔️ Grade 12 and a Certificate in Nail Therapy
✔️ Relevant practical experience in nail therapy
✔️ Proven experience working with clients and people
✔️ Strong customer service and communication skills
✔️ Fluency in English and Afrikaans
✔️ Basic computer literacy
