Wortelgat Outreach Trust We are a Christian Campsite situated next to the Kleinrivier Estuary in Stanford.

A camp site situated 10km outside Stanford on the banks of the Klein-Rivier Estuary. Wortelgat was foundered in 1967 by four families who felt the call to establish a Christian campsite. Wortelgat (meaning "root" hole) has it's name due to the fact of farmers on the land dug for fresh water exposing the roots of the ancient milkwood trees.

On behalf of the Wortelgat Outreach Trust Team, we wanted to extend our sincere condolences to the homeowners, Andrew Steele and Heidi Golding, who have experienced a loss in their respective families recently.

We're gearing up for the next 💫 B O O T C A M P💫, where we'll spend a few days with youth between the ages of 18 and 23, teaching them more about life at Wortelgat, the gap year programme and giving them the space to learn new skills, enjoy activities, meet new friends and learn more about themselves 🤩

Every bootcamp is different, but the outcome is always the same: new friendships, new memories, fresh perspective, and so much more!

We're officially counting down to the next bootcamp happening on 28 September -1 October 🤩

If you would like to come and experience life at Wortelgat and learn more about the Gap Year Programme, we'd love to have you with us!

Remember, to get accepted into the 2027 Gap Year Programme, you need to have attended one of these bootcamps. So, if you are looking to apply for the 2027 programme and have not yet attended the bootcamp, this is your opportunity!

📣 WELCOME HOME!

This morning, the full Wortlegat Staff gathered to welcome back the team from their 10-day trek 🩵 . It was an emotional and reflective morning as we celebrated their safe return after 10 gruelling days of hiking, camping, learning, serving and much adventure!

After all the welcomes, the students enjoyed their first hot shower in a few days, after which we enjoyed a staff breakfast together with the gappies.

The conversations that came out of the reflection and debrief session after breakfast were truly beautiful to hear- just how much this experience has stretched and grown them, and how it will surely have a lasting impact on them and their lives. 🌱🥰

We're so proud of our ! They have shown resilience, innovation, faith, strength and a hunger to truly be better humans.

They will be resting this weekend before a busy week ahead next week!

TREK UPDATE 📣

Yesterday, the team completed 100 km of the trek, with just over 60 km to go.

They have 2 days left before they reach the final destination of the trek, and as you can hear, they may be tired, but they are truly enjoying the experience. 🚶🌄⛺🌱🚣

We're covering them in prayer as they wrap up the final stretch of the trek.

TREK UPDATE📣

The team are just over halfway through the 10-day trek, and despite being physically tired, they are having an incredible time🚶🌄🤩

Some of what they have gotten up to over the last few days:
🌱 Volunteered at the Marula Indigenous Agrarian Khoi-munity Farm.
🚸 Facilitated a programme at Fisherhaven Academy.
🚣‍♀️ Camped along the Houw-Hoek River for the night.
🌾 Learnt about Conservation at Hermanus River Farm.
🚶 Crossed the Bot River Lagoon on foot.
⛺ Camped at Fisherhaven.
🌄 Camped in Kleinmond.

There is a lot more that the team will be experiencing and learning on the rest of the trek!

It's that time again! ⛺🚶🌄

Every year, the Gap year students embark on a 10 Day Trek, and today the team have started day 1 of the trek.

Over the next 10 days, the team will be hiking, setting up camp, cooking meals outdoors and serving communities along the way. This is an experience that encourages resilience, innovation, faith and teamwork.

We're looking forward to hearing about their experience when they return on 28 August.

The Gap Year Programme started a whole new chapter for Sharnè, and today, she is wrapping up with the last few weeks of her time at HoneyRock in the USA - an opportunity that has taught her so much about Christian Camping, and that is sure to impact her future. 💛

Development and growth are things that we value deeply at Wortelgat, and it's an immense pleasure for us to empower and partner with youth who are hungry to grow, go deeper and become the best versions of themselves.

We're currently accepting applications for the 2027 Gap Year Programme, where YOU could embark on a new chapter of clarity, growth, development, strengthening, and so much fun!

CCSA Conference 2026✨⛺🤩

We attended the CCSA - Christian Camping Southern Africa Conference in Jeffrey's Bay last week, and it was truly an incredible time from beginning to end.

From the road trip to the conference sessions to the new friendships formed and everything in between, it was an experience that we will remember!

A big thank you to the CCSA - Christian Camping Southern Africa team for hosting us with such warmth and intentionality💛
