Macassar is surrounded by natureโs treasures, such as the Macassar Dune system, the Moddergat River, the Macassar beach estuary, seasonal wetlands as well as the majestic Helderberg Mountain Range that overlooks the valley. The Macassar township in which the school is situated is vibrant with a cosmopolitan flavour brought about by the influx of immigrants of neighboring African Countries into the area. This in itself creates more social challenges added to the existing level of economic hardship that the community faces on a daily basis. The current unemployment rate is estimated around 40% and residents are largely dependant on social grants provided by the government. Family structures are largely dysfunctional and the effects of this filter into the school environment. To counter the paralyzing challenges our school aims to create well balanced learners that can bring about positive change in the community. Therefore, we are partnered with a wide range of organisations such as The Presidentโs Award Programme for Youth Development, ATKV, Project 90 by 2030, Rotary Interact, Support Services: Learning support programme, Social support from WCED as well as organisations like Help-Me-Network, and Peer Educator programmes.
