Somerset College

Somerset College Boarding is available for students in the Senior School.

Somerset College is an independent, co-educational school situated on a beautiful estate in the Winelands, offering schooling from Grade 000 (age 3 turning 4) to Matric and Cambridge A-levels. Founded in 1997, Somerset College is one of the few schools in the country offering both the IEB curriculum and Cambridge programme. Once students leave to make their own way in the world, they will be able to do so with pride, safe in the knowledge that their education has prepared them as fully as possible for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

🏏 CRICKET
What an end to the Spring Festival for our Somerset College teams!

Our 1st Team played against Framesby. Batting first, Somerset College 1st Team posted a massive 320 all out, powered by a sensational unbeaten century from Buhle Mfunelwa – 132* off just 100 balls (11 fours, 6 sixes)! Solid support came from Mark Pyle (65), Oliver Prothero (26) and Ave Nkitine (25).

In reply, tight bowling from Dan Kaplan (3/13), Mila Silamsi (3/21) and Mark Pyle (2/26) skittled Framesby U19 A for just 90, sealing a dominant win for the boys. Somerset College 1st XI beat Framesby by 230 runs!

Our U15s played against Victoria and pulled off a 5-wicket victory!

Great performance all round!

CRICKET SPRING FESTIVAL
Our U15 and 1st Team have been competing in our Somerset College Spring Festival.

The competition has been tough, but our boys have held their own:
🔹 1st Team: wins against Oakdale and Outeniqua on first innings
🔹 U15s: a win against Oakdale and a loss to Reddam Constantia on day two

A special mention to Jono Searle for his outstanding 138 not out against Oakdale.

We wish both teams all the best as they look to finish strong on the last day.

CRICKET TOUR TO KNYSNA
Well done to our U11 & U13 Boys on a fantastic cricket tour to Knysna! We're grateful we managed to get all the games in, especially with the weather looking uncertain.

Our U11s finished on a high, winning all 4 of their games against Fraaisig, Lochnerhof and Woodridge! 🙌

Our U13s also had a brilliant tour, winning 4 out of their 5 matches against Graeme College, Gene Louw, Rheenendal and Milnerton. A definite highlight was playing at the prestigious Ashford Cricket Ground in Plett — a fantastic experience for the boys.

thank you to all the coaches and parents for your support on tour!

HERITAGE DAY AT PRE-PREP
Heritage Day honours the country’s cultural diversity, traditions and history. At our Pre-Prep School, we love celebrating our unique heritage as a collective, around a braai and with joy in our hearts. We always have the most fun learning a new dance and then performing it as a big surprise for our parents. It certainly ‘Feels like Mzansi’ is in the air!

HAPPY HERITAGE DAY FROM PRE-PREP!

HERITAGE DAY: Celebrating the languages that connect us
As we celebrate Heritage Month and Heritage Day, we reflect on a special Multilingualism Day at Somerset College, where our learners explored the many languages, cultures and identities that make our community so wonderfully diverse.

From Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa, French, German and Sign Language to Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, learners discovered that language goes far beyond spoken words. Through classroom activities, games, challenges and cultural exchanges, they had the opportunity to learn, connect and see the world through different perspectives.

Our guest speaker, Siwa Sibeko, reminded us that Table Mountain is beautiful because of its diversity. In much the same way, our school community is enriched by the many different languages, cultures and experiences represented within it.

Unity does not mean uniformity. It means coming together through our differences.

This Heritage Day, we celebrate the languages that shape our identities, the cultures that enrich our lives and the people who make Somerset College the community it is.

Happy Heritage Day from the Somerset College community!

REFLECTING ON WOMEN'S MONTH
During Women’s Month, our Student Social Responsibility Portfolio found a meaningful way to support women in our community.

The team put together 30 feminine packs, each filled with essential toiletries and feminine hygiene products, along with a few small treats. Mrs Rhonalda van Zyl and 12 portfolio members then visited PATCH in Somerset West to deliver the packs. The visit also allowed the students to learn more about PATCH and the important work they do in supporting children and families affected by abuse.

A simple reminder that small acts of kindness and care can make a difference.
