The South African Skills Debate: Skills Shortage or Ex*****on Challenge?
For years, we’ve been told that South Africa’s biggest barrier to growth is a severe skills shortage.
But what if the real issue isn’t the lack of skills - but how we’re executing skills development? In this article, Sabelo Myeni shares a bold and honest perspective after years of working across universities, SETAs, business schools, and training providers. Learners who register before 30 June 2026 will still be able to complete their qualifications - with achievement dates extended in many cases up to 2027 till 2029.
It gives your learners ample time to finish their programmes without rush, while still benefiting from the current, well-established MICT SETA qualifications.
This is especially important as South Africa transitions to the new QCTO Occupational Qualifications Framework. Registering before the cut-off ensures continuity, stability, and peace of mind for both learners and organisations.
If you have team members you’d like to develop in 2026, the coming weeks offer a valuable window to secure their place under the current framework.
Feel free to email us directly at [email protected] if you’d like more information about available programmes.
