Nanjing city tightens Covid measures as minimal positive cases resurface
Jiangsu reported 48 new confirmed cases and one asymptomatic case on Wednesday, taking the total number of infections in the province to 159 since July 20.
The infections in Nanjing were nearly all found in areas near the Lukou International Airport, where the outbreak started, Nanjing health authority official Yang Dasuo said on Wednesday at a press conference.
Nanjing kicked off the third round of citywide nucleic acid tests on Wednesday. Medical experts previously told the media that most of the cases in Nanjing had been vaccinated. Previous research has proven that vaccines are still the best method of preventing critical cases.

China conducts research on 71 vaccines that are effective on deadly Delta strain
Just when citizens all around the globe thought the dust had settled with Covid-19, there came along the Delta strain. A subsequent virus related to the initial virus. This strain has taken some parts of the world by storm and countries that have been affected by it are currently engaged in a battle to fully eradicate this strain.
It is pleasing to note that China is researching and developing 71 vaccines against COVID-19 and they are effective against the Delta strain. This makes China a country with the largest number of vaccines undergoing research, experts said.
Nine of the 71 vaccines have already been put into use. China’s inactivated vaccines are effective in reducing the rate of infection and severe symptoms, and they are also effective against the Delta strain.
This research initiative currently being conducted provides China a chance to study mature vaccine technologies and apply this knowledge for future infectious diseases that may be more severe than COVID-19. These new technologies could also be used to optimize current vaccines against AIDS and the Flu.
Speaking of the opening of borders, Zhong said as long as the epidemic in one place is not completely under control, the world is still at stake. We need the joint effort of the whole world to fully control the pandemic.

Flight from South Africa to China might be carrying latest strain of Covid-19
A designated clinical facility managed by a special medical team to treat COVID-19 patients infected with the Delta variant has been set up in Shenzhen after the local government announced four cases of the new variant in the city.
The city will treat separately all COVID-19 patients on Air China flight CA868 which flew in from South Africa. The flight triggered Shenzhen's new wave of infection.
Patients will be transferred to the designated area once there is a confirmed infection with the Delta variant.
Shenzhen local authorities announced on Tuesday that four COVID-19 patients were confirmed to be infected with the Delta variant showing a virus genome sequence similar to that found on patients from the Air China flight.
As of Tuesday, the city had administered 20.96 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, with 71.42 percent of the city's population having received two doses. The latest total number of infected passengers that were on board flight CA 868, a flight from Johannesburg that landed in Shenzhen on the 10th of June 2021 is sitting at 38. According to the Chinese news report, we can confirm that these passengers are carrying the Delta variant

China has tripled its daily COVID-19 vaccine rollout in June, inoculating 44% of its population with at least one dose, but its health experts warn against a quick border reopening, citing an uneven rollout and the low rate of full vaccinations
China rolled out 17.3 million doses per day in June on average, up sharply from 4.8 million in April, as it expanded the list of approved vaccines to seven by adding three more locally-developed shots, and continued to boost production.
"China is such a big country... Once any of its places open up, it will have a big impact on places that haven't reached high vaccination levels," Feng Zijian, a researcher at Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said earlier this month.
Feng said that China is yet to reach a consensus on what vaccination rate will safely allow adjusting virus control measures, including loosening requirement of quarantine or virus testing for inbound travellers.
China will also wait and see how Japan handles its virus outbreak and the Tokyo Olympics next month before deciding how quickly Beijing needs to loosen its border controls, a person familiar with the situation said. China is also stepping up vaccinations in preparation to host the Winter Olympics early next year.

Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional and important celebration in China.
In 2021, Dragon Boat Festival falls on June 14 (Monday). China will have 3 days of public holiday from Saturday (June 12) to Monday (June 14)
Duanwu Festival(Dragon Boat Festival) is a folk festival celebrated for over 2,000 years, when Chinese people practice various customs thought to dispel disease, and invoke good health.
Some of the most traditional customs include dragon boat racing, eating sticky rice dumplings (zongzi), hanging Chinese mugwort and calumus, drinking realgar wine, and wearing perfume pouches.
Dragon boat racing is said to originate from the legend of people paddling out on boats to seek the body of patriotic poet Qu Yuan (343–278 BC), who drowned himself in a River.
Dragon boat racing is the most important activity during the Dragon Boat Festival.
The wooden boats are shaped and decorated in the form of a Chinese dragon. The boat size varies by region. Generally it is about 20–35 meters in length and needs 30–60 people to paddle it.
During the races, dragon boat teams paddle harmoniously and hurriedly, accompanied by the sound of beating drums. It is said that the winning team will have good luck and a happy life in the following year.

Are masks no longer needed after being COVID-19 vaccinated?
A senior Chinese epidemiologist on Thursday advised people to continue wearing face masks even after being vaccinated against COVID-19
Wu Zunyou, chief epidemiologist with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention mentioned that “vaccination is a biological method to prevent the disease while masks and social distancing are public health measures aimed at prevention control.
“Wearing a mask brings only benefits to the individual as well as their family and society”, Wu said. May we all adhere to the regulations of social distancing and wearing masks in order to fully enjoy the liberty of visiting other countries and experiencing different cultures. Stay safe.

A traveler was recently sentenced to one year in prison with a year probation for falsifying a COVID-19 test report. “This individual’s behavior has seriously affected the Chinese epidemic prevention and control work”, said the Chinese embassy in Russia.
This incident strongly reminds all travelers to comply with the regulations.Every traveler needs to obtain the nucleic acid and IgM tests accordingly as well as to make sure that testing data is valid before traveling.
"As the pandemic is still spreading in many countries, the mutated virus has increased the difficulty of pandemic prevention and control" , read the embassy’s report, which reminds China-bound passengers to arrange their schedule in advance in the event of any emergencies, such as testing positive for COVID-19 at airports.

East China’s Anhui Province and Northeast China’s Liaoning Province have stepped up contact tracing and mass testing in efforts to contain the latest COVID-19 resurgence.
There have been seven confirmed locally transmitted cases and seven asymptomatic carriers that have been reported thus far. It is alleged that all recent infections are related to an offline training session at a photo studio in Yu’an District of Lu’an City.
The cities of Lu’an and Hefei have both launched citywide nucleic acid tests in the wake of the new infections. About 1 million people in Lu’an and close to 170 000 people in Hefei tested negative for the novel coronavirus. The authorities are working very hard to contain the virus in order to fully eradicate it and ensure that life is fully back to normal. Experts have basically ruled out the possibility of mass infections in Anhui, said D**g Mingpel, Deputy Head of the Provincial Health commission.

, is one of the most important Chinese traditional festivals, the other two being the Autumn Moon Festival and Chinese New Year.
The festival commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese Poet and polititian Qu Yuan, who was a respected man but because of the misdeeds of jealous rivals, he eventually fell into disfavor in the emperor’s court.
Chu Yuan threw himself into the Mi Lo River in his sorrow, as he was unable to regain the respect of the emperor.
Because of the admiration for Chu Yuan, people rushed into their boats to search for him while throwing Zongzi into the river to prevent Qu Yuan’s body being eaten by some animals in the river.
Nowadays, Dragon boat racing and eating Zongzi are still the central customs of the festival.
