The myth of perfectionism… It’s a toughie. It tells us:
📫 You won’t be loved if you’re not perfect.
📫 You won’t be valued if your flaws are exposed.
📫 You will be abandoned if you don’t show up exactly as someone expects.
📫 Your actions, every single one, are a reflection of your inherent worth.
📫 You are never allowed to be a beginner, you are never allowed to learn.
Sounds crazy reading it out loud right? But that’s the loop that can keep replaying in our head if we are not mindful of it.

The body is fascinating. It often mirrors back at us what we are struggling with. This is no more pronounced than when working with trauma and trauma survivors.
Within the trauma-sensitive yoga model, we integrate several important areas of focus: practice, facilitator and space. Within the practice, one could consider:
(1) Gentle activation & awareness
- Mindful, standing pelvic tilts.
- Crescent lunges, progressing to pelvic tilts.
- Side-lying illiopsoas stretches.
(2) Gentle rest & care
- Reclined feet on floor, knees bent, with resting breath.
- Legs up on chair, with resting breath.
- Warming, tummy breath.
NB: This should not be attempted without careful consideration of the entire TSY model + individual cases. Integrating the poses and movement within an encouraging and empowering therapeutic relationship, and safe space, nested within the individual & local context is crucial.

Trauma by its very nature is something that happens *to* us. Even our responses to trauma are largely automatic and based on our brains and bodies trying to do anything possible to survive.
This leaves many trauma survivors feeling out of control. At the mercy of triggers and an overhwelming flood of emotions and nervous system responses. Some of which start to significantly affect mental and physical health.
Trauma-sensitive yoga nurtures a reversal of this. It focuses on restoring a sense of safety and empowerment.
The hope of trauma-sensitive yoga is that we start to regain an improved sense of peace, control and renewed hope for our healing & our future. A simple, gentle, accessible, deeply embodied and unbelievably beautiful practice to experience and facilitate.
