Nature is not static, it is a combination of adaptive systems. It's amazing how plants communicate quietly with climate and other external conditions. For me I think, it is important for Landscape Architects and gardeners to carefully look at these clues, and processes to inform design schemes, maintenance programme that is adaptive to change.

This has been quit a busy week for everyone in the office. Although I had lot of work to do, my computor just decided not to work properly, and I had to go back to old school hand rendering (which requires patiancy).

But I've managed to complete all my duties; infact I had to, because It's also one of my duties to check the board on Friday and follow up with stuff members.

Get involved

A Working for Water team was seen doing their bit for the clearing of the spruit in Mondeor on Wednesday, October 7, during the launch of the National Invasive Species Week launch in Johannesburg.
Armed with panga’s and herbicide they cleared a large portion of the riparian area of poplar saplings.

We just went out to choose and collect boulders from a quarry near Montaque gardens.
I've observed and leaned lot about stones while I was on this site, firstly they are very dangerous (as you can see on the pictures safety is a priority on this site) and I've just noticed that rocks look alive in the natural landscape form (mountain form) and even when they are broken into these small individuals).
They can change in form/shape/character, but they will remain rocks/boulders and boulders are natural.

Construction site at Hout Bay.
We just visited one of our upcoming Design site (possible our upcoming project), getting a short design brief from our boss and taking few measurements (dept and hieghts of roof plantrs and reatianing walls) as these dimessions are not clearly indicated in the plans from the Architects.

Printing out plans and 3D renderings drawn by Birte (In-house designer), and I was amazed by the way she solved this problem here (this is one of the residences in Newlands, this house have limited Landscape space with huge Burm that have an old Pine tree on top) and due to City of Cape Town regulations, we cannot remove this Pine tree, but as you can notice in the renderings, Birte yse the tree and big burm as an design advantage and created entetainment area on top with sort of jungle gym space.

This is one of the site I have been working on.
as anyone can notice, the site is situated in a very steep area even the builders claim that access/transportation of tools and material was a hustle here.
but with the negotiation with the site foreman, I helped my team in moving our material up this hill.

I was tasked to prepare a planting palette for our new client at Fresnaye, this a new contructed building and there client would like to have a garden with the naturilised fybos and mauntain planting feeling, grasses and restios for roof gardens.
after selecting plants and created presentation for planting theme, my manager tasked me to do rough estimate for soil enhencers, planting and other materials needed to complete the project.

With Birte Stamadiadis (in house designer), taking site measurements at Newlands.
This is quit hectic side with monster Pine trees that are blocking views and taking lot of space, and the client have no idea wath to do here, just requested something that can make the landscape feel wide/open.
