MEC Motsumi insists that learners should be given their report cards
The North West Department of Education has noted with serious concern, the denial of issuing report cards of some learners.
Currently, schools across the province are in the process of issuing reports to learners. In some schools, learners have been denied report cards due to various reasons involving outstanding fees they owe to the school.
The MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, strongly condemned those schools that deny learners report cards.
“I have received numerous calls from parents and learners across the province who complain about learners being denied their report cards. This action is highly unacceptable, and those school principals should desist from doing so. Every year at this time, I continue to repeat the same message that learners should be given their report cards,” said MEC Motsumi.
MEC Motsumi further emphasised that schools should deal with parents, not learners, to ensure that they recover any outstanding money. She further said that parents need to fulfill the commitments they make to schools.

MEC MOTSUMI SLAMS SCHOOLS FOR WITHHOLDING LEARNERS’ REPORT CARDS.
The North West Department of Education has raised serious concern over reports that some learners are being denied their report cards due to outstanding school fees.
Schools across the province are currently issuing end-of-year reports. However, in several areas, learners have allegedly been prevented from receiving their academic results, with school officials citing unpaid fees as the main reason.
North West MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, has strongly condemned this practice.
“I have received numerous calls from parents and learners across the province who complain about learners being denied their report cards. This action is highly unacceptable, and those school principals should desist from doing so. Every year at this time, I continue to repeat the same message that learners should be given their report cards,” said MEC Motsumi.
The MEC stressed that financial matters should be dealt with directly between schools and parents, not the learners. She added that while school fees are necessary for the functioning of schools, learners should never be punished for circumstances beyond their control.
“Parents need to fulfil the commitments they make to schools,” Motsumi added.
Sechaba Times has also received several complaints from concerned parents regarding similar incidents in different parts of the province. Parents are urged to continue reporting any such misconduct by school officials to ensure all learners can access their results without discrimination.
