This weekend’s spectacular flyover before the Springboks–All Blacks match reminded us that traditions do more than create excitement - they create pride and identity.

In schools, it’s the songs, ceremonies and milestone moments that help learners feel part of something bigger than themselves.

Our annual Careers Day was a wonderful celebration of imagination, ambition and possibility.

From doctors and engineers to chefs, teachers, scientists and many more, our learners proudly shared the careers that inspire them and the dreams they hope to pursue one day.

While today’s costumes brought smiles, the true purpose was much deeper. Activities like these encourage children to dream boldly, communicate confidently and believe that their goals are within reach.

Grade 5 CAPS Geography Term 3 topic:

Learners are expected to explore weather instruments such as thermometers and rain gauges and use them to observe weather conditions as part of practical geographical enquiry.

Our Grade 5 learners became young meteorologists as they designed and built their own thermometers and rain gauges during Geography.

By creating these weather instruments themselves, learners gained a practical understanding of how temperature and rainfall are measured while developing creativity, problem-solving and scientific thinking.

Hands-on learning transforms classroom concepts into meaningful experiences that learners remember long after the lesson ends.

We are delighted to welcome Mr Quinten Poley as the new Principal of Mellow Oaks Academy.

With more than three decades of experience in education, teaching and school leadership, Mr Poley brings a wealth of knowledge, dedication and purpose to our school community.

“I am as excited to take on this new role at Mellow Oaks Academy as I was 36 years ago when I first entered the profession.”

His appointment reflects our continued commitment to strong leadership, academic growth and a caring, values-driven school environment in which every learner can thrive.

Learning comes alive when learners create, explore and discover. 🌦️

Our Grade 5 learners designed and built their own weather vanes during Geography, combining creativity with scientific thinking.

By constructing their own instruments, they explored how wind direction is measured while developing problem-solving, teamwork and practical skills.

At Mellow Oaks Academy, learning goes beyond textbooks - we encourage our learners to ask questions, experiment and understand the world around them.
