This year's graduation student speaker, Njoki Njoroge '24 from Kenya, brought to the stage a box of small objects, each tied to a person who shaped her ALA journey.

She reflected on the lifelong bonds she built, reminding the graduating class that their growth was never a solo act.
"Mtu ni watu. A person is people."

These are the words Njoki left us with. We are not extraordinary alone. We are extraordinary through community.

As the Class of 2024 steps into the world, they carry that lesson with them: find the people worth being extraordinary with!

Leading with purpose🌍

From representing young people on the United Nations Adolescent and Youth Advisory Group to engaging in diplomatic debate and policy negotiations through Model African Union, Ramou is turning her passion for youth advocacy into meaningful action.

Driven by a commitment to inclusive leadership, governance, and multilateral cooperation, Ramou is developing the skills to help shape the conversations and decisions that will define Africa’s future!

"You cannot fully plan your life. You can only keep trying to become ready for when it asks something of you."

These are the words of Dr. Amel Karboul, this year's graduation speaker, urging the Class of 2024 to keep serving before they feel ready, and to let their ambition reach toward something that will outlast them.

She traced her own journey back to a 2am moment in 2009, when a letter to a magazine editor set off a chain of events that led her from Germany to serving as Tunisia's Minister of Tourism, and asked the graduates to be awake enough to answer when their own 2am moment comes.

The 6th edition of the Chevron Engineering Leadership Program took place on the African Leadership Academy campus from 22 June to 10 July 2026, bringing together thirty-one high school students from seven African countries with mentors from engineering universities across Gauteng.

Over two weeks, students applied human-centred design to real problems facing education across Africa, developing seven engineering solutions by the end of the program. Beyond the prototypes, they left with newfound confidence, cross cultural friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the power of collaboration in engineering and design thinking.

We are grateful to Chevron for our partnership which continues to reshape young innovation on the continent!

Meet Lusekelo from Uganda who graduated from our 2010 Class.

Lusekelo is continuing his journey of impact as a serial entrepreneur driving innovation across agriculture and technology. Through LB & LN Farms, he is championing sustainable agribusiness by producing and processing export crops such as cashew nuts and avocados, while creating local value and employment opportunities.

His latest venture, GoGo App, is transforming roadside assistance in Tanzania by providing reliable, on-demand support and strengthening service networks across the country.

From sustainable agriculture to technology-driven solutions, Lusekelo represents the power of entrepreneurship to create meaningful opportunities and lasting impact across Africa!

At every graduation, we pause as a community to honour students who have not only excelled during their two years at the Academy but made it a better place simply by being in it!

Congratulations to this year's Graduation Award recipients! Adler Joao Mucoche (Leadership Award), Temitope Oluwaseyifunmi Johnson (Dean Christopher Khaemba Award for Academic Excellence), Jeremy Sheldon Sakwa Muchilwa (Sani Prize), and Marwa Kriraa (Spirit of Africa Award). Their impact will be felt long after they've left.

We're also celebrating our incoming Year Twos who received endowed scholarships: David Baba Sawaneh (Shaheen Jassat Scholarship) and Favour Jesudamife Bamidele-Tugbobo (W. Paatii Ofosu-Amaah Scholarship), as they step into the next chapter of their ALA journey.

African Leadership Academy and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) recently delivered the inaugural AI for Africa Bootcamp, a two-week residential program introducing talented high school students from across the continent to artificial intelligence!

Participants learned foundational AI concepts, worked with graduate student mentors, engaged with leading researchers, and visited the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria.

The program closed with a capstone showcase of student-built AI solutions addressing challenges in health, agriculture, sustainability, and education. We are grateful to MBZUAI and to every mentor and organiser who made this first edition possible!
