Fire-Safety Visit Brings Learning to Life at Lighthouse NextGen and G.O.D Schools
Learners at Lighthouse NextGen Schools and G.O.D Schools in Wilgeheuwel recently enjoyed an unforgettable visit from SCP Private Search & Rescue.
The visit gave learners from preschool through to high school an opportunity to learn about fire safety and emergency procedures in an exciting, practical and age-appropriate way.
Members of the SCP fire crew spoke to the children about what to do during a fire or other emergency, how to remain calm and the importance of listening carefully to emergency personnel. These valuable lessons helped learners understand how preparation and the correct response can keep themselves and others safe.
The children were thrilled to explore the fire and rescue vehicle and learn more about the specialised equipment carried by the crew. They were also given the opportunity to try on firefighters’ hard hats, ask questions and experience what it feels like to be part of a rescue team.
The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the practical water demonstration. The learners had enormous fun interacting with the fire crew and being sprayed with water from the fire hose. The school grounds were filled with laughter and excitement as education and play came together perfectly.
For Lighthouse NextGen Schools and G.O.D Schools, the visit was about much more than simply having fun. It helped build confidence, encouraged curiosity and gave learners practical knowledge that could prove invaluable during a real emergency.
The school extends its sincere appreciation to SCP Private Search & Rescue for the patience, enthusiasm and care shown to every learner. The crew created a safe and welcoming environment in which children of different ages and abilities could participate, learn and enjoy the experience.
It was a phenomenal day that the learners and staff will remember for a long time. Experiences such as these demonstrate how community organisations and schools can work together to educate children and help build a safer, more prepared community.
