This is what anzan (mental arithmetic, pretending to use a soroban (Japanese abacus) looks like when a Grade 1 learner knows all 56 rules for addition and subtraction. He is using his right hand for the units and his left hand for the tens. He will be one or 7 students representing the Abacus Maths Witpoortjie Branch at the Annual National AMSASA Competition in Rustenburg this weekend.
