SafeR in the Water is a Community Water Survival initiative between The Last Leaf Foundation, Silakhe Social Development, Splash Fanatics and Jackie's Swim School.
To celebrate World Drowning Prevention Day we launched our first SafeR in the water programme on 24 July.
30 students from Katie Primary school joined us for 3 hours to learn how to Float. This was the first of what we hope many more.
This day would not have been possible without Splash Fanatics for providing the perfect venue. It was a cold and rainy day, but the event could continue becasue of the indoors, heated pool.
Transport remains a challenge, but the Taxi industry in Richards Bay always comes through for us, and once again they did not dissapoint. At a discounted rate they transported the children safely to and from the venue. Initiatives such as these can not be made possible without the generous sponsorships from our local businesses and our residents.
At R100 a child it provides transport, lunch and a contribution to the running cost of the venue.
A huge thank you to Traveling with E2, Nomusa BnB, Indoni Multi Services, Yonkosi Consulting Project, Zululand Yacht Club and anonymous donar.
And a HUGE Thank you to TWK Agri for sponsoring the next 3 events.
How do you get involved you ask? Contact Jackie 0797712710.
Our aim is to do one of these events every month. Our mission is to build water safety centres in all our rural areas. Every child deserves to learn the skill of swimming. Today we taught 30, my dream is to reach every child and You can help.
