πβ¨ FLOREAT PRIMARY SCHOOL |
THE SCIENCE OF READING WORKSHOP β¨π
Yesterday, Floreat Primary School proudly hosted a pioneering Science of Reading (SOR) workshop, bringing together educators from various schools through a collaborative effort between our Foundation Phase (FP) and Intermediate Phase (IP).
π― The primary aim of this workshop was to bridge the gap between Grade 3 and Grade 4, ensuring a smoother transition for learners as they move from learning to read towards reading to learn. Through collaboration, shared expertise and practical strategies, educators explored ways to strengthen literacy foundations and provide learners with the support they need to succeed across this critical transition.
The workshop featured valuable contributions from our guest speakers, including Natalie Southgate, Deputy Chief Education Specialist for English in the Western Cape, who shared her expertise on the Science of Reading. Mrs C. Abrahams presented on Jolly Phonics and the Six Core Skills, while Mrs M. Buckton and Mr A. Pillay facilitated a Grade 4 lesson tutorial. Further insights into learning support and bridging the Grade 3β4 gap were shared by Mrs E. Mitchell and Cindy Meyer.
As a pioneer school in initiating and hosting this collaborative workshop, Floreat Primary is proud to lead the way in fostering meaningful partnerships between schools and across learning phases. We recognise that when Foundation and Intermediate Phase educators work together, we build stronger bridges, create greater continuity in learning and empower every learner to reach their full potential. π±π
A heartfelt thank you to our guest speakers, participating schools and all educators who contributed to the success of this enriching day!
At Floreat, we collaborate, we innovate, and we build bridges to brighter futures! ππ§‘
