🚁 Eyes in the Sky Over Melusi!

Today marks an exciting moment as our drone takes to the skies over Melusi, capturing the community from above. It has been one year since the last aerial survey in July 2025, and we can't wait to see how the area has changed.

These images will help us visualize growth, development, and transformation over time, providing valuable insights into the changing landscape of the community. Every road, every home, and every new development tells a story of progress.

We look forward to comparing today's aerial imagery with last year's and witnessing how Melusi continues to evolve.

⚽🏆 The Mandela Day spirit lives on!

As we continue reflecting on the impact of our Mandela Day initiatives, we're proud to highlight another memorable activity by the UJ GRT-I team in collaboration with UJ Community Engagement volunteers at Ekhaya Park in Hillbrow. The Hillbrow Ekhaya Mandela Day Tournament featured:

Under-11 Soccer Competition
Under-15 Soccer Competition
Community Netball matches

The event brought together 17 teams, consisting of children from local residential buildings within Hillbrow and Berea communities where UJ GRT-I actively conducts research.

What started as a tournament became so much more than a game. It was a day of connection, teamwork, and community spirit, bringing together local residents, community stakeholders, and volunteers in a shared commitment to positive change.

From the excitement on the field to the meaningful conversations off it, the event created opportunities to strengthen partnerships, build lasting relationships, and celebrate the values of service and active citizenship that Madiba championed.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and helped make the day a success. Together, we are creating stronger communities, inspiring hope, and proving that even small acts of service can make a lasting impact.

💛🖤 Together, we continue to turn Mandela Day into Mandela Action.

🌟 Celebrating Mandela Month in Melusi! 🌟

Our University of Pretoria GRT-I team and the Community Advisory Board spent Mandela day, the 18th of July 2026 giving back by cleaning the community clinic 🧹, serving warm soup to local children 🥣, and sharing plenty of smiles along the way 😊.

A small act of service can make a big difference. Together, we're building stronger and healthier communities! 💙

Look out for more posts as our teams have been on the ground celebrating Mandela month spreading cheer and smiles in communities😁

On 7–8 July 2026, the UJ GRT-I team conducted field observations in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, in collaboration with the University of Pretoria GRT-I.

The team completed 183 household observation checklists as part of a study of Renay Van Wyk's PhD research, assessing the impact of environmental sanitation and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) conditions on public health in Gauteng communities.

Fieldwork like this highlights the importance of collaborative, community-centred research in advancing evidence-based public health solutions.

📍 Yesterday, our team was out in the community raising awareness and connecting with residents. We were grateful to one of our building partners for giving us access to set up a Gazebo outside their premises.

While some team members engaged with people at our stand, others went door-to-door distributing pamphlets, sharing important information, and informing residents about our visit and telLing them about GRT-I.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop, chat, and learn more. Together, we continue building stronger and more informed communities. 🧡
