The way in which we approach parenting can shape a child’s world 🌍
While every family is unique, research consistently highlights authoritative parenting as the style most strongly associated with positive developmental outcomes.
Authoritative parenting balances warmth, responsiveness, and emotional connection with clear expectations, boundaries, and guidance. It teaches children that their feelings matter while also helping them learn responsibility, respect, and self-regulation.
Children need adults who can provide both empathy and leadership. When parents combine connection with consistency, they create an environment where children feel safe, valued, and supported to reach their full potential.

Children don’t always communicate in the same ways adults do. For many children, play is the most important way to express thoughts, feelings, experiences and relationships.
Play-based assessment creates opportunities to build rapport, reduce anxiety, observe developmental skills, explore emotional expression and gain insight into a child’s world. Rather than relying on direct questioning, social workers can use play to better connect with and understand children.
Play is not just an activity during assessment, its often one of the richest sources of information available 🧸

From 29 May - 5 June we recognise Child Protection Week. Every child deserves to grow up safe, protected, heard, and loved.
This Child Protection Week, we are reminded that protecting children is not only the responsibility of professionals, it is the responsibility of every adult, every family, and every community.
When we listen to children, believe them, and create safe spaces for them to thrive, we help build a future where every child can reach their full potential.

On Friday 15 May it was International Day of Families! This was an opportunity to honour the relationships that shape children’s sense of safety, identity, and belonging.
At Kidsbuzz, we are reminded that healthy, loving families are not defined by perfection, but by connection, repair, and the ongoing effort to show up for one another with care and respect. Every family has its own story, and every story holds the possibility for growth, healing, and deeper understanding.
We celebrate families in all their forms, and the everyday work of building environments where children feel seen, valued, and emotionally secure 🧡

Children shouldn’t have to carry the emotional weight of separation or divorce. When conflict spills over, children often take on roles they were never meant to hold: mediator, protector, messenger or peacekeeper. Co-parenting well isn’t always easy, but choosing regulation, respect and restraint can change the course of a child’s development 🤝
