SKWATTA KAMP - THE WU-TANG OF SOUTH AFRICA ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Skwatta Kamp is a legendary South African Hip-Hop collective from Soweto, Alexander ( Gomora) & East Rand in Johannesburg & it is basically one of the groups that pushed S.A Hip-Hop from the streets into the mainstream. It is widely regarded as a landmark in South African Hip-Hop History. It played a significant role in popularizing the genre in the country and the synergy they brought became the for future Hip-Hop collectives in South Africa. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

It was formed in 1996 and had 7 core MCs โ€” Infa ( The RZA of the crew๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿ˜‰), Nish, Shugasmakx (Lebo Mothibe), Flabba (Nkululeko Habedi), Nemza, Slikour (Siyabonga Metane), and Bozza (Nkosana Nkosi). Relo was a frequent collaborator who appeared on many records. Their style was Raw, energetic township rap mixing Zulu, township slang and hip-hop beats. Their name itself flips โ€œsquatter campโ€ โ€” taking a word with negative connotations and turning it into something powerful ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ“Œโ—

Skwatta Kampโ€™s use of humor, local references, and storytelling in their lyrics was appreciated by fans, making them feel seen and heard. They didn't just release albums, they shifted the paradigm. Their 2001 debut _Khut En Joyn_ went gold with 25,000+ units and (2003) sold 77,000+ copies. They won SAMAs for Best Rap Album for (2003) and _Mkhukhu Funkshen_ (2004), plus a Channel O award for Best Hip-Hop Video. They also shared stages with Talib Kweli and Dead Prez, and were inducted into the South African Hip Hop Museum Wall of Fame.

The echoes of S.K still live on in the sounds of many modern-day rappers who blend street narratives, deep language identity, and sharp lyricism. After 27 years, they dropped their 6th and farewell album (Seven) on Freedom Day 2023. Slikour said it was about closure for fans who grew up with them, though they might still perform together. The group was also marked by loss โ€” Flabba was fatally stabbed in 2015, and Nish passed from COVID-19 in 2021. R.I.P ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Their 6 studio albums are now on streaming platforms. Who can forget classic tracks like " Umoya", "Clap Song", "Rau-Rau" and " Building Castles" ? This crew helped open doors for other South African Hip-Hop artists to gain recognition on both local and international stages. SK played a crucial role in shaping the South African hip-hop scene and remains a nostalgic rap super-group for many fans of the Hip-Hop Genre. S/O Skwatta mannnn!!! Skwatta Kampโ€™s was and still is thee of South Africa.๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ
