Wednesday's Wise Words
Kindergarten literally means "children's garden."
A place where children are nurtured.
Where they grow through play, curiosity, movement, stories, relationships, and wonder.
But somewhere along the way...
We killed the garden and built a test factory.
Too many five-year-olds now spend more time being measured than being children, more time on benchmarks than on the skills that actually matter: self-regulation, resilience, curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a real love of learning.
You don’t help a flower grow by constantly measuring its height.
You create the right conditions and let it bloom.
What if we actually treated Kindergarten like a children’s garden again?
• Play as real learning
• Projects instead of packets
• Stories instead of screens
• Outdoor time every day, not as a reward but as a right
• Movement woven through the day, not squeezed out of it
• Learning how to sit with frustration instead of avoiding it
• Learning how to share, speak up, listen, and work things out
These aren’t “extras.”
They are the work.
Five-year-olds don’t need acceleration.
They need soil, sunlight, time—and adults who understand that growth can’t be rushed without breaking something important.
We don’t need better test factories.
We need to stop building them.
A few more Little Minors having so much fun with their "Home Projects" this past weekend
