Prince Albert is the most suited venue for tourist friendly star-gazing because it has a dry climate with about five out of seven cloudless nights per week, is centrally situated for day visits to other attractions in the Great and Little Karoo and also has many charming guest houses and restaurants such as Olive Grove.

SN 1987a in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Feel free to share!
Glittering stars and wisps of gas create a breathtaking backdrop for the self-destruction of a massive star, called supernova 1987A, in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a nearby galaxy. Astronomers in the Southern hemisphere witnessed the brilliant explosion of this star on Feb. 23, 1987.

ESA/Hubble Flashback: Stephan's Quintet - A Mammoth Cosmic Collision. Feel free to share!

This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image is a close-up view of the central part of Stephan's Quintet, giving a magnificent view of a gigantic cosmic collision. Weird, highly distorted features, dust lanes crossing between galaxies and long filaments of stars and gas extending far beyond the central regions all suggest galaxies twisted by violent encounters.
