Yesterday was slaughter day and emotions ranged from “FREE AT LAST” to “somebody grab Wildcard, I’m pretty sure he’ll fit in my boot 😭”.
Between the endless feed bags, mud, bunk cleaning, chaos and stress… these animals stopped being “just cattle”. They taught us responsibility, patience, pressure, teamwork, and just how easy it is to fall in love with production animals.
As a team, we made mistakes…. Some small. Some spectacularly BIG (and public) 🫠. Yes, this challenge humbled us far beyond any post could ever describe but as future veterinarians, we are grateful for the invaluable lessons over the last 105 days.
So thank you to the Rib-ellion boys for the head scratches, laughs, and memories that we’ll carry forever. What a ride it’s been. 🐂🫶🏼

Yesterday we spent some time critically evaluating our cattle for today’s on-the-hoof evaluation. 📝 🐂 🤔
We had to select our Top 4 based on conformation, muscling and overall build before the professional judges arrive today. 👀
This involved:
• dramatic staring
• some heated debates
• calling numerous ooms to settle the scores
• and closing Moodswing’s ears as announced “hierdie Simmentaler het my teleurgestel 😭😂”
Today we find out if our selections were on point…or if the judges are about to humble our 🍑’s. Wish us luck 🤝🥳

Override (512) decided to crash our afternoon with a suspected case of laminitis.🚨
He was seen limping around the camp and, once we cleaned his foot, it was clear we had a little problem. 🫠
We treated the area with F10 ointment and administered Excenel (antibiotic) and Ketofen (anti-inflammatory) to keep him comfortable and covered.
Because obviously, with 7 days left of the feedlot challenge… it would be far too peaceful for the rebels to behave now. 😅
