When we share learner challenges with parents, these often come as a surprise. While we get that modern living is tough, we wish to remind you all that parenting is a full-time responsibility. The level of neglect from modern parents, in terms of academic support, is staggering.

Happy Mother’s Day! Moms, we salute you, because we know how many different job titles really go into those three little letters, M-O-M!

Allow your children the opportunity for creative expression. When their hands and minds are engaged, they slow down and become calm. In our fast-paced world, full of overstimulation, these sessions are critical. Time to ground themselves and recharge.

When heritage is nurtured and celebrated, children feel a sense of belonging. It offers emotional security and enables a child to value and respect another’s culture.

This piece, by a Gr 7 learner, is testament to the fact that, as parents, we need to control what our children have access to. This little man is beyond stressed about the wars, natural disasters and economic problems. As a child, he struggles to filter what is serious, distant or likely to affect him. Everything to him feels immediate and highly personal. A child DOES NOT need this stress.

May Term 2 be smooth sailing for us all: teachers, students and parents.
