A Preschool situated in Hatfield Pretoria which aims to provide quality education according to Montessori Principles.

We aim to give all our students the best possible start in life and that means inspiring them with our teaching to progress and learn every single day they are with us. In our school we focus on understanding what motivates young people to learn and share their knowledge. We fashion our learning environments to promote a need to know and a need to share. This is a natural and modern extension of M

“Let us give the child a vision of the whole universe… for all things are part of the universe, and are connected with each other to form one whole unity.”— Maria Montessori, To Educate the Human Potential

Yesterday HMP had the pleasure of a visit from some UP students doing their community service.
The children were shown how to prepare the soil and transplant herbs into our vegetable garden.

😂🐕🌱

Suri said if she wasn’t allowed to be involved in the digging, she would just turn her back on the whole process!

Happy Diwali to all those who are celebrating the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.

Once again we thank our mulberry tree for all the years it has graced us as place for children to climb, a source of fruit to eat fresh from the tree, more fruit to make into jam and a sufficient supply of leaves for many many many silkworms with insatiable appetites.
This year it was also the motivation for some songs from one of our troubadours!

Montessori Dictionary
Writing to Reading – In a Montessori environment, children usually begin writing before they can read. They are keen to create words with a box of loose letters (the moveable alphabet) or write their words with chalk or pencil. About six months later, they begin to understand what reading means, and they do so only through associating it with writing (Montessori, 1936/1983, p. 142). Source: Annette Haines, January 2001

A parent’s impression of Hatfield Montessori Preschool

30/09/2025

HMP is responsible for being a school distinguished by a cooperative approach between diverse children, staff and parents. We really appreciate having parents involved in many different ways with our joint education of the children.
One parent who is actively involved is Mandisa Madanha. She comes in regularly to assist in teaching the children to fold Origami models.
Mandisa is a creative individual with a keen eye for detail. She loves using her hands to craft things be it with making origami with the children, gardening, making yummy baked goods or leather products.
She thoroughly enjoys the beauty, peace and tranquil of nature.
"The hand is a tool of tools."

We are so happy to have exchanged messages of peace and friendship with the children of Pristine Private School in Dubai as part of the Peace Crane Project. This project invites every student on the planet to fold an origami crane, write a message of peace on its wings, then exchange it with another student somewhere in the world.
The Project builds friendships, strengthens hand-eye coordination and writing skills, teaches geography, exposes students to new languages and cultures, and EMPOWERS YOUTH to make a difference in their community, country, and world.
Classrooms, teachers, students, schools, community groups, and individuals are welcome. (While the project mostly hosts students, there are participants ranging in age from one to 100!) It’s FREE to participate!
So if you are looking for a project for your kids, have a look at www.peacecraneproject.org either for a global exchange or just to see their resources!

Meet Happy Gomez

Happy Gomez has been coaching soccer skills at Hatfield Montessori Preschool since 2015.
Happy came from Ghana in 2014 where he had been employed by Ghana Australia Gold Company to play in their soccer team and had also been selected for the National team.

In South Africa Happy got married in 2015 and studied SAFA coaching at the UP High Performance centre.

He now has a Soccerstarz franchise serving schools around Pretoria and continues to enjoy being with the kids.

On Sundays he has a change of pace and is in control of his church’s sound system.
And on Mondays we continue to enjoy his arrival. Thanks Happy.

His advice is: “Be patient – very very patient and then doors will open”

At Hatfield Montessori, we teach more than letters and numbers—we nurture Ubuntu.
Because when children learn to honour each other’s heritage, they grow into adults who build a better world.
Happy Heritage Day
