How do we build better water security for everyone? By ensuring that gender and social inclusion are at the heart of our planning. π§
The G4DR project has been working hard in the Mono Basin, Shire Basin, and the Upper Nile Water Management Zone to understand how groundwater management impacts local communities. Through recent GESI assessments, we have explored:
β
How land and water are used in different households β
The connection between water, sanitation, and health β
How to improve decision-making and empowerment
These insights are helping us develop real, actionable steps to make groundwater governance more inclusive, enabling communities to build resilience to climate change and improve their livelihoods.
Together, we are working toward a future where water security supports everyone. Click here to read the brief:https://sadc-gmi.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/G4DR-Brief270526-1.pdf

Did you know that some communities in Kasungu and Ntchisi struggle to access water from their boreholes even during the dry season? π±
We are excited to share that we are working on a new project to tackle this head-on! We are piloting Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) techniques to help "recharge" our underground water sources. π§β¨
What does this mean for the community? β
Reliable water access, even during the dry season. β
Better water quality monitoring. β
Training and empowerment for local leaders and community members.
By using techniques like rooftop harvesting and infiltration trenches, we are capturing rain and directing it back into the ground where it is needed most.
Stay tuned as we pilot these solutions to create a brighter, water-secure future for Malawi! π²πΌπ
