chestra Program offers three ensembles for string players aged 7-20. Placements are for the Orchestra Program, not one specific ensemble. Students are placed in the ensemble that best suits their needs, at the discretion of the Orchestra Program Coordinators and ensemble directors and should be flexible regarding placement. Preparatory Strings: 14:00 - 15:15
This is the entry-level ensemble for strings. Members should be a minimum of 7 years old and have at least 2 years playing experience. No maximum age is set. The orchestra will concentrate on basic orchestral skills, listening, ensemble playing, etc. Members should be able to play in the keys of D, G, A, C. Junior Strings: 15:15 - 16:45
A small orchestra for ages from 9 who will benefit from detailed training. Members should have at least 4 years of playing experience, and have reached at least Gr. 3 level. Members will benefit from further ensemble skills in preparation for the Chamber Strings. Players should have two years of experience in the Preparatory Strings or its equivalent. Chamber Strings: 14:30 - 16:30
A small string ensemble for more advanced players.o Gr. 6/7 level is required for this orchestra as professional repertoire will be performed. A high degree of commitment is expected. Cost: R1000 per student per semester payable over 5 months (R200)
