Follow American English at State to learn more!
It's common for languages to have something called "placeholder words," which are words that speakers use when they can't think of the correct name for an object. Some common examples in English are "whatchamacallit (a quick way of saying "What do you call it?")," "thingamajig," or even the simple words "thing" or "stuff." If you can't remember a person's name, you might call them "So-and-so."
Does your language have any placeholder words? Tell us about them below!
