North Gauteng Science Fair

North Gauteng Science Fair The North Gauteng Science Fair is the premier annual school science exhibition in the Tshwane area.

North Gauteng School Science Fair is an annual science exhibition where learners from grade 1-12 have a chance to show others their projects about their own scientific investigations. Annually we have about 500 projects with about 600 participants from over 50 Gauteng primary and secondary schools. Schools generally first host their own Science Expo and then send their best projects to the North Gauteng Fair. The Science Fair create the opportunity for learners to discuss their work with judges, educators and learners from other schools, increase their awareness of the wonders of science and broaden their scientific horizons.

Still life: An empty stand. Abstract on the table. Project not quite ready.

We see you.

We get it. And it’s ok.

Science doesn’t always finish on our time.

What matters is you started. 🦾

We’ll be here next year.

Don’t stop. 🫶🏻

The lab notebook is still open.

The work continues.

Gold Medal

Gold (Au)

Chemical composition: Pure elemental gold — atomic number 79.

Fun fact: All the gold ever mined in human history would fit into a cube roughly 22 metres on each side — about the size of a large house.

Gold is pure, enduring, and radiant. It stands as the ultimate standard of excellence — a brilliant achievement that shines for years to come.

Congratulations to our 2026 Gold winners!

Silver Medal

Silver (Ag)

Chemical composition: Pure elemental silver — atomic number 47.

Fun fact: Silver is the best electrical and thermal conductor of all metals, which is why it’s still used in high-end electronics and solar panels.

Silver is bright, reflective, and highly valued. It captures light and turns it into brilliance — a strong, shining performance that reflects true quality and potential.

Congratulations to our 2026 Silver winners!

Copper Medal

Copper (Cu)

Chemical composition: Pure elemental copper — atomic number 29.

Fun fact: Copper is the second-best electrical conductor after silver and has been used by humans for over 10,000 years — the Statue of Liberty is covered in about 80 tonnes of it.

Copper is versatile, conductive, and reliable. It powers connections and carries energy — a solid performance that links hard work to real results and builds momentum for the future.

Congratulations to our 2026 Copper winners!

Iron Medal

Iron (Fe)

Chemical composition: Pure elemental iron — atomic number 26.
Fun fact: Iron makes up about 85% of Earth’s core by weight and is essential for human life — it’s the key element in haemoglobin that carries oxygen in our blood.

Iron is strong and resilient. It is an excellent foundation to build on for next year.

Congratulations to our 2026 Iron winners!

North Gauteng skies are roaring from the Africa Aerospace and Defence Air Show this weekend. To celebrate please enjoy this project by young scientist Adele Stols from our Junior Science Fair.

The origin story of his project? “I love planes.” Sometimes it’s as simple as that! 😁

Remember it’s never a good idea to let you lab-assistant (aka parent) choose your topic. Your own passion and interest will keep you going when it gets tough. And you don’t want to spend months working on something you don’t love 😁

Enjoy the air show show this weekend!

Happy ! Let us tell you about the tech prizes 💻📳 for Our Senior Fair winners this year.

WHAT:
Every year the top performers receive laptops, MacBooks, tablets, iPhones etc. — generously donated by our partners at TT3 Digital Repairs.

These aren’t brand-new devices.

They’re refurbished. Carefully restored by people who know what they’re doing.

WHY
We love pre-loved tech for a simple reason:

A good scientist knows you never replace what you can fix.

That’s the mindset we want in this community.

✅ Repair, repurpose, enhance, build up. 🗑️Don’t discard.

The same spirit belongs in a lab.🔬🧑‍🔬

WHO
Congratulations to the winners. And thank you, TT3 Digital!

They have excellent pre-loved tech available. They also assist with repairs, diagnostics and software. Save this post for when you need them 📲💻=🚑
